The ICC in 2024

The ICC has wrapped up another year! Chartered in 2015 from the ACIA, our institute nears it’s 10 year anniversary, and the steady growth since is symbolic of the growth of computing at MTU. Furthered by the founding of the College of Computing at MTU in 2019, computing is here to stay at MTU, and becomes emboldened by cross-disciplinary collaborations that finds computing converging with other fields to enhance research outcomes.

On that note, we are excited to share this snapshot of the ICC’s year in 2024, which marked another year of exciting growth for the institute.

ICC Members secured new funding for research projects totaling $7.6 million in 2024 across over 45 awards, with the first quarter of FY25 (July-September 2024) having the most. New awards and proposals during the year came from diverse research areas, from offshore wind energy grids to studying bipedal locomotion on the moon.

106 proposals were submitted by ICC members during 2024, 17.9% of which have already been awarded, with 67% pending. The proposal volume continually rises due to the dedicated faculty around the ICC, which welcomed 15 new members during the year.

This growth extends the resources that the ICC can give back to it’s members. In addition to the two full time staff dedicated to proposal development, the ICC doled out over $140,000 in member support, including $105k for Rapid Seedling Awards, $34,955 for Faculty/Student Travel Grants, and $18,505 for Faculty Fellowships.
