ICC – Introducing the Center for Quantum Phenomena

As many around the community know, the ICC added two centers across campus, one being the Elizabeth and Richard Henes Center for Quantum Phenomena (CQP). Since merging, the CQP has continued their strong research activity, receiving large research awards, hosting campus activities, and funding student reearch. 

Some highlights so far:

Dr. Guney receives $1.1 million from the US Department of Defense for “Midwave Infrared Single Photon Detection via Quantum Non-Demolition.”

Two CQP-sponsored lecture series:

  • Dr. Lewis, Brookhaven National Laboratory, “Science of atmospheric aerosols.’’
  • Dr. Potenza, University of Milan, Italy, “Laser characterization of airborne ice particles in nm regime’’,  Invited special topic lecture series

CQP’s Quantum Day celebration took place on November 6, 2025, hosting student research posters and a visit from Michigan Tech president Dr. Richard Koubek

CQP has also sponsored three graduate students’ conference travel grants and two faculty conference travel grants in this time!
