RHEL10 testing

In the meantime, if you are a faculty or staff member who uses Linux for coursework, grading, or other work, it is imperative for you to test the available RHEL10 preview machines. By doing so, it will help us identify issues with software, scripts, course materials, and workflows. Contact us immediately with any issues so we can find and deploy solutions before the Fall semester begins.

Where to test

Machines with a preview build of RHEL10 for testing are set up in the Library second floor orange zone (workstations 08, 09, and 10). You can also SSH into forbin.it.mtu.edu to test non-graphical aspects of RHEL10.

Additional details

RHEL10 will become the default OS for fully-managed Linux on new installs or rebuilds of graduate, faculty, and staff office workstations.

Please verify that any software needed for class/coursework is in the Linux lab software list for RHEL10 with valid contact information and course details. The software list contains information on software packages that:

  • Have been dropped due to a lack of upstream RHEL10 support or the absence of associated contact information
  • Are already deployed
  • Are waiting for more information/testing before being deployed
  • Are not ready for testing

You can join the Linux information mailing list to receive email notices and information about Linux instruction labs or Linux office workstations.
If you would like to upgrade your current Linux system to RHEL10 or if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email IT or call 906-487-1111.
