- Graduate Assistantship in Sustainable Communities
- Northen Arizona University’s Sustainable Communities Program seeks a graduate student for a two-year, fully funded graduate assistantship during the 2024-2026 academic years.
- The student will be an integral part of a faculty/student team that is developing a new USDA-NIFA-funded project, “Addressing Barriers to HSI Student Retention through Community Engaged Sustainable Food Systems Education.”
- The Graduate Assistant will work toward an MA degree in Sustainable Communities while helping to coordinate and oversee a team of funded undergraduate interns who will work in Flagstaff public school gardens.
- Because the project focuses on underserved populations, the Graduate Assistant is required to have a high level of Spanish-language fluency.
- This position requires working 20 hours per week on the project during the two academic years, and 40 hours a week during the intervening summer.

- American Women’s History Initiative
Paid 2024 Because of Her Story (BOHS) Cohort Internship Program- As part of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum (SAWHM), the Smithsonian will host a cohort of up to 14 Because of Her Story interns in Washington, D.C.
- Through a variety of experiential learning opportunities, including a hands-on internship with a designated Smithsonian unit, Because of Her Story interns will gain a deeper understanding about museum and educational best practices, and will help further the work of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
- Undergraduate Students who have a commitment to women’s history and are at least 18 years old with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are welcome to apply.
- The program lasts for eight-weeks from June 10-August 2, 2024, with a weekly $400 stipend, provided housing in Washington, D.C., and reimbursement for travel to and from Washington, D.C.

The Leadership for Change Internship strengthens students’ understanding and commitment to social justice and leadership through meaningful, hands-on projects and access to leaders in the field. All projects will focus on one or more of the four core topic areas: women’s history, climate change, race and social justice, and the changing American narrative (including rural initiatives, immigration, education, civics, democracy, and other topics). All internships are 32 hours per week and take place June 10-August 2, 2024. Students receive a modest stipend, plus travel and housing assistance (where applicable). Application deadline is February 26, 2024.

Smithsonian Affiliate Hybrid Internship
- This opportunity matches interns with one of several participating Smithsonian Affiliate organizations. This is a hybrid internship—interns will spend 4 weeks in-person at an Affiliate organization and 4 weeks working virtually at their home location.
Washington, D.C. Internship
- This opportunity matches interns with one of several participating Smithsonian museums or offices. This option is 8 weeks in-person on the Smithsonian campus.

During the summer of 2024, join an interdisciplinary team of researchers working to understand refugee integration factors and the outcomes of these factors on migration and voting behavior. MTU is beginning a project working with the non-profit Global Detroit, the Standford Immigration Lab, and the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, and we need interns to help with recruitment and data collection. The Rachel Carson Council is hiring a Research and Policy Associate who is an aspiring, creative, committed and flexible environmental leader at the beginning of their career. The candidate should be willing to help expand and innovate at a small, but growing organization.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine or environmental studies, science, history, or political science, or combined with other majors, minors or concentrations in helpful fields such as African American or Women’s Studies, English, journalism, creative writing, public policy is required.
Responsibilities:
- Track proceedings in the House and Senate to help inform RCC’s priorities in the policy agenda; attend legislative hearings, write memos, and send weekly updates to RCC staff regarding relevant issues.
- Write and publish reports, articles, Op-Eds, policy briefs and papers for the RCC on its issues to include placement in other media outlets, journals, magazines, etc.
- Speak publicly for the organization through lectures, workshops, rallies, and in the media.
- Participate in and present to the RCC Campus Network, at RCC conferences, advocacy days, and trainings for RCC Fellows, etc. Work closely under the RCC Director of Policy and Programs to execute events, research, writing, and more.
- Carry out additional tasks as needed and directed by the President & CEO within RCC’s mission.
Pay is $50,000 annually, or commensurate with experience.

The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy is hiring an Executive Director who will direct all land trust operations and programs, supervise staff, and represent UPLC as the face of the organization.
Responsibilities Include:

The Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research program works with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program to study coastal systems. One specific opportunity offered is a social science coastal-related fellowship research opportunity. This postdoctoral researcher will help advance fundamental Coastal Change Hazards research, guide and improve coastal hazard assessment capabilities, and advance knowledge of coastal processes to meet the needs of coastal stakeholders around the Nation. The research opportunity will include a focus on assessing social aspects of model predictions in conjunction with the impact of an actual storm event.
There is availability for an Associate Teaching Professor in GIS at University of California, Santa Cruz. This position will entail multiple key roles intended to support a growing geospatial program in the Department of Environmental Studies. These roles include leading a GIS Master’s program, teaching courses for undergraduate, graduate, and professional development in GIS and Spatial Data Science, maintaining the Center for Integrated Spatial Research (CISR) facilities, and supporting research in geospatial research in the department. This full-time position will start in July of 2024.
