Food Access Coordinator with From the Ground Farmers Market Collective

Summer/fall employment opportunity with From the Ground Farmers Market Collective. Support local food access programs and help coordinate vibrant community farmers markets across Houghton, Hancock, and Calumet. This is a part-time, seasonal position (May–October, 10 hours/week). The role includes working directly with vendors and customers, supporting food assistance programs, and contributing to market operations and social media outreach.

Pay is $18/hr for 10 hrs/week for 21 weeks. Weekends and evenings required. Candidate must be available to work Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays May 10-October 11, 2025 (the farmers market season). 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Helping customers with the checkout process (education and facilitation of market tokens) 
  • Educating vendors on the food assistance programs that From the Ground Markets offer. 
  • Help set-up and frequently lift, move and carry tents, tables, signage, and other large items weighing up to 50 pounds around the market space. 
  • Patrol market spaces for potential trash and customer safety hazards.
  • Clean up and closing assistance as requested by the Market Manager. 
  • Constantly works in all outdoor weather conditions, as all summer/fall season markets take place outdoors. 
  • Collect content for social media during Market hours, create posts and manage social media in coordination with From the Ground social media contractor(s).

Sustainability Engagement Coordinator at Weber State University

This position will serve under the direction of the Weber State University’s Sustainability Programs & Engagement Manager and will be responsible for coordination of the Intermountain Sustainability Summit, and the implementation of portions of the Campus Awareness & Engagement, and Community Awareness & Engagement sections of WSU’s Sustainability Plan. This will include coordination of events, and assistance with community-facing programs. The position will also assist with reaching two of WSU’s sustainability goals including maintaining the Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System (STARS) Gold certification, and helping the region strive for carbon neutrality by 2050.

Primary Duties

  • Serve as the primary organizer and coordinator of the Intermountain Sustainability Summit, an event serving regional sustainability professionals and emerging leaders. Duties include co-development of the program, hosting partner coordination meetings, identifying, attracting and coordinating speakers, collaboratively promoting the event region wide, coordinating an internship fair, recruiting and assisting Eco Expo hall exhibitors, managing volunteers, and all logistics (rooms, food, A/V, etc.), as well as managing event registration, and attracting and maintaining ISS sponsors.
  • Assist with management and implementation of community programs, working in collaboration with the SPARC Home for Sustainable Living staff, community partners, local governments, and campus contacts to develop and promote, as well as oversee student and staff volunteers to host related events.
  • Manage the implementation of assigned portions of the Campus and Community Awareness & Engagement sections of the WSU’s Sustainability Plan.
  • Manage WSU’s STARS Community Engagement data collection and reporting.
  • Assist to develop WSU’s ongoing sustainability strategies, and implement applicable strategies to help the university maintain and reach its sustainability related goals.
  • Assist to develop Campus and Community Awareness & Engagement strategic plans and ensure goals are met.
  • Develop and host a WSU sustainability podcast.
  • Coordinate with SPARC director, manager, and ESO office, and student staff to help develop and maintain sustainability-related education/outreach materials including websites, brochures, newsletters, social media, campus signs, etc., and disseminate information about WSU’s sustainability work
  • Manage one to two student interns/workers, and/or an AmeriCorps member, as well as limited-time volunteers.
  • Assist with the coordination of the annual Sustainability Awards event with the Energy and Sustainability Office (ESO) Office.
  • Provide occasional sustainability-related classroom presentations for staff, faculty, students and/or community members.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in fields such as Sustainability, Environmental or Social Science/Studies, Geography, Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, Environmental Education, Public Administration, or closely related field
  • A valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • A creative and collaborative problem solver
  • One or more years conference/event planning experience
  • One or more years of experience implementing sustainability education/outreach programs
  • One year of experience managing volunteers or staff
  • Project management experience
  • Updating/creating websites, and/or newsletters experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including but not limited to technical writing, collaboration building, public speaking, and oral presentations
  • Strong organizational and detail oriented skill
