GIS/Remote Sensing Technician

The Kennedy Lab at Oregon State University and the National Park Service – Great Lakes Inventory and Monitoring Network are collaborating to offer a GIS/Remote Sensing Technician position in Ashland, WI starting in Feb 2025. This is a temporary on-site role. This position will assist with the long-term Landscape Dynamics program at the NPS Great Lakes Network office in Ashland, WI. The role of the successful applicant will be to interpret remotely-sensed imagery to label and validate polygons of disturbance in the landscapes in and around national parks of the Great Lakes region, and to manage the data in a GIS geodatabase context.

The Technician will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic information to create maps and databases. Daily tasks include processing and managing spatial data, interpreting satellite and air photo imagery to validate land cover and land use changes to support research projects. Duration of the job is 6 months with an hourly rate between $17-23/hour depending on experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GIS software, Remote Sensing tools, and Spatial Analysis methods
  • Experience in collecting and interpreting geographic data
  • Knowledge of cartography, database management, and data visualization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, and other geospatial software

Associate Teaching Professor in GIS

There is availability for an Associate Teaching Professor in GIS at University of California, Santa Cruz. This position will entail multiple key roles intended to support a growing geospatial program in the Department of Environmental Studies. These roles include leading a GIS Master’s program, teaching courses for undergraduate, graduate, and professional development in GIS and Spatial Data Science, maintaining the Center for Integrated Spatial Research (CISR) facilities, and supporting research in geospatial research in the department. This full-time position will start in July of 2024.
