Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities at Western University

Western University’s Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL) located in London, Ontario, Canada invites applications for up to three full-time Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) positions with expertise in Health Geography, Geographic Information Science, and/or Social Science.

A PhD in Geography, Planning, Epidemiology, Sociology, Political Science, Health Sciences or other relevant discipline is required at the time of appointment. 

The positions are available effective July 1, 2025 and January 1, 2026 (but alternate start dates may be negotiated) and will be for an initial period of one year with potential to renew annually for up to 4 more years.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. 

The HEAL is a unique inter-disciplinary research and training environment which develops and connects highly skilled researchers to create, disseminate, and mobilize knowledge for making healthy, thriving communities.

The PDFs will work with a multi-disciplinary team and engage in one or more ongoing HEAL research projects related to child/youth health, transportation and mobility justice, parks and public spaces, and/or child/youth geographies.  

An ideal PDF candidate will have:

Demonstrated applied experience with quantitative and/or qualitative methods, especially those with a spatial element

Knowledge of community-engaged and/or participatory action research approaches

Excellent written and oral communication in English, with a clear emerging track record of peer-reviewed publications

A passion for research, collaboration, mentorship, and social impact

Experience working with youth and/or historically excluded and underrepresented groups

Ramsey County Minnesota Planning Internship

This summer internship program, offered in partnership with the University of Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies, gives undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of degree programs the opportunity to gain experience in a local government setting.

As part of the program, students get the opportunity to bring their unique perspectives, experiences and ideas to departments within the county’s Economic Growth and Community Investment (EGCI) service team, specifically the Community & Economic Development, Public Works, and Housing Stability departments and the county’s Health and Wellness service team, specifically the Food Security/Urban Agriculture team. The internship program offers students three months of experience during the summer, with the potential to extend through the end of the academic year. Students from any college or university may apply.

Undergraduate and/or graduate students with an interest in public policy and planning are encouraged to apply. Seven internship for the summer of 2025 are available. This paid internship program offers students three months of full-time experience during the summer, with the potential to extend through the end of the 2025-2026 academic year.
