NOSOTROS POTLUCK THIS FRIDAY:  NOSOTROS is organizing a potluck get together this Friday, July 29th at the East Houghton Waterfront Park (next to Super 8 hotel) beginning at 6pm and going until dusk.  We are expecting great weather and plan to have games and enjoy the sun.  Bring your own outdoor games, or dominoes, board games, a beach chair, etc.  There are no BBQ facilities, however you are welcome to bring your own grill.  We will be playing music so you can dance or listen to it, or you can just hang around, sit by the deck, and meet new friends.  We will start eating at 7 pm.  Bring your own dishes and silverware.  Alcohol is allowed for those 21 and older (no glass).  Bathroom facilities available and dogs are allowed.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact auboni@mtu.edu.

K-DAY REGISTRATION:  It’s not too late for student organizations to register for K-Day!  Please register your organization by September 2nd at http://kday.mtu.edu/KDayReg.html.  K-Day is short for Keweenaw Day and is a longstanding tradition at Michigan Tech.  Student organizations head out to McLain State Park and set up displays and demonstrations for students.  K-day is known for many different events and activities for students as well as the student organization fair for students to see all 220 student organizations at Michigan Tech.   K-Day will be held on September 9th from 12:00-4:00pm.  Last year there was food, great music, student organization booths and other fun activities.  There will be free bus service to K-Day beginning at noon on the 9th leaving every half hour from the Memorial Union Building.  Hope to see you there!

BLOOD DONORS FOR RESEARCH:  Medical Micro-Device Engineering Lab (M.D. ERL) on campus is seeking blood donors for all blood types, especially the following rare blood types: A-, B+, B-, AB+ and AB-.  If you would be willing to donate a small vial of blood via the trained personnel at the SDC Portage Health Clinic, please contact Ms. Kaela Leonard at kaela.m.leonard@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.  For any questions regarding the research, contact Dr. Adrienne Minerick at minerick@mtu.edu.  You will be asked to provide proof of blood type, but other personal information will not be recorded and will be kept completely confidential.  You will need to give your consent for donation; the form can be viewed at www.mderl.org.  A small monetary gift of $5 will be given to donors.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HOUGHTON COUNTY FAIR:  Michigan Tech MIND TREKKERS are seeking volunteers for the Houghton County Fair, where the team will be showcasing nearly 100 hands-on demonstrations.  The event is on Thursday August 25, 2011. PARADE OF NATIONS PARTICIPATION:  The 22nd Parade of Nations “Spice is Always Nice”  will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in downtown Hancock and Houghton.  Michigan Tech students are invited to represent their countries by marching in the parade, making and selling food from your home country, or by showcasing your talent during the entertainment portion of the program.  The parade committee is accepting applications for floats, booths and performances.  International Programs and Services will award activity grants (up to $100) to recognized Michigan Tech clubs and organizations to offset the cost of participating.  Funding will be provided on a first come fist served basis so submit your applications today!
