An Afternoon on the Town
On Saturday, August 29 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, join your fellow classmates for An Afternoon on the Town. This annual Michigan Tech event spans from campus, down College Ave., and through the downtown Houghton business district. Area businesses and services will be participating and handing out food, coupons, and other giveaways to showcase what they have to offer. This is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the area and make you feel at home with the community.
You will also have the opportunity to enter into our prize giveaway! The grand prize this year is a GoPro with several other great prizes from area businesses!

Late Night Programming Presents Comedian, Tracey Ashley
Join in the laughs on Saturday, August 22 at 9:00 PM at the Rozsa Center to see comedian, Tracey Ashley.
You know what they say about a person with two first names? Well…who knows? People say a lot of stuff. When it comes to Tracey Ashley people are saying the same thing “This woman is funny!” Tracey was a semi-finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing Season 5, has appeared as a Co-host on TVLANDS Prime Movies, and performs in comedy clubs and on college campuses across the country!

MUB Board Hosting, Throwback Time Machine
On Wednesday, August 26 from 9:00 -11:59 PM, Walker Lawn, join our DJ as they push ‘the big red button’ and launch the Throwback Time Machine, the craziest video dance party this side of the 21st Century. You’ll be transported back in time by our resident spinner as he drops the biggest tracks and the most memorable pop videos from the past five decades. Throwback Time Machine delivers a night like no other to kick off the year at Michigan Tech.

Come out to see comedian, Eric Schwartz, Saturday, August 29 from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Rosza Center. An unassuming nerd unleashes a mind-blowing show filled with musical comedy, physical antics, multicultural satire and social commentary. Eric Schwartz is one of the most creative and original comedians working today, earning the description, “everything there is to love about entertainment.” With appearances on The Tonight Show, Showtime, Comics Unleashed, BET and more, this comedian’s stand up, songs and characters are spreading worldwide!

Photo Scavenger Hunt & Cookout
Explore the Keweenaw and connect with Cru and other first years on an adventurous photo scavenger hunt on Saturday, August 29 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Meet in front of Wadsworth Hall at 4:00 PM to begin the hunt and join in the cookout at the Hancock Beach afterwards. For those who cannot make the scavenger hunt, meet in front of Wadsworth Hal at 6:20 for rides to the cookout. There will be beach volleyball, swimming, and food!

Center for Diversity and Inclusion Open House
Stop by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) located in the Hamar House (#13) to meet some great people, learn about what we do on campus, on August 25 from 10 AM – 1 PM.
Students from the African Student Organization (ASO), American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), Keweenaw Pride (KP), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of African American Men (SAAM), Society of Intellectual Sisters (SIS), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), and Women’s Programming Committee (WPC) will be around to talk to you about their organizations and all the great programming and events they plan throughout the year.
Khana Khazana features Thai Food
Khana Khazana will feature a menu of Thai food from 11:00 – 2:00 PM today in the MUB circle. The menu includes Yum-Aranya, a seasonal salad served with sour and spicy sauce and Kai Yang, a rich herb chicken grilled with sweet tamarind sauce and served with rice.

AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walk
It is that time of year again when we join the AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walk. This year, the Baraga County Walk is on Saturday, September 12, beginning with Registration at 10:00 am at the L’Anse Waterfront Park, please consider joining us to create awareness and help eliminate suicide! It is a great fundraiser, with the goal of ending Suicide! It doesn’t get much better than that! As you know I walk in Memory of my Daughter Cami Rose, my personal goal is to help keep one person from having to make this journey. I have gained much knowledge and support from this event/group, it has been amazing, helpful and even healing, just knowing we are not in this alone. Any and all donations are of greatly appreciated.

SDC Building Hours
SDC building hours for the academic year will begin Sunday, August 23 and remain in effect until April 30, 2016. Reduced hours will be posted during University holidays and spring break. The SDC will be open Labor Day, September 7.
New this fall, public skating will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays and will continue to be free for SDC members and Michigan Tech students. All others can skate with the purchase of a day pass or $3 for skating only.
