Rozsa Gallery A – Space Presents “Amusement Park Avenue”
Why do we love amusement parks? From side-shows to Ferris wheels, we’re drawn to the excitement of the buzz, the sounds, the bright colors, the sensory extravaganza. The Department of Visual and Performing Arts and the Rozsa Center are excited to announce Amusement Park Avenue: The 2017 VPA Faculty & Staff Exhibit. Faculty and staff of VPA will exhibit a variety of works of many different media and concepts, touching upon all five senses and inspiring curiosity, as if walking down an amusement park avenue. Fifteen artists will be represented: Jared Anderson, Anne Beffel, Mary Cyr, Kent Cyr, M.C. Friedrich, Terri Frew, Lisa Gordillo, Roger Held, Bethany Jones, Susie Kilpela, Jeremy Littlefield, Josh Loar, Elizabeth Meyer, Christopher Plummer, and Jess Portfleet. The opening reception is Friday, March 31 at 4:00 PM in the Rozsa Gallery A-Space. The exhibit will run until April 28, and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are M-F 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Sat. 1:00 – 8:00 PM.
The Houghton-Hancock Rotaract Club is excited to present the Modern Manhattan Gala themed Charity Ball on Saturday April 1 at the Continental Fire Co. from 7:00 to 11:30 pm.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be given to the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter, which offers victims of domestic violence, and their children, temporary shelter and provides counseling to achieve safety and find resources to escape violence and abuse. All services are free and confidential.

From Traditional Chinese Music to Jazz: “Orchid Ensemble” Performs Saturday
Please join us for a concert featuring the renowned Canadian group “Orchid Ensemble,” who will join conScience: Michigan Tech Chamber singers, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 7:30 PM, in the McArdle Theatre. Established in 1997, the JUNO nominated Orchid Ensemble is Lan Tung (Taiwan/Canada) on the erhu/Chinese violin, Yu-Chen Wang (Taiwan/US) on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard (Canada) on percussion. The ensemble blends ancient musical instruments and traditions from China and beyond, creating a beautiful new sound.

Economics Club Hosts Panel Discussion on the Economics of Climate Change

Night of Hope sponsored by Relay for Life at Michigan Tech and the Houghton Community Relay
Relay for Life of Michigan Tech will be co-hosting an event called the Night of Hope with the Houghton Community Relay on April 8th. This event will be in the Rozsa from 5-8pm. This event will be focused on honoring survivors of cancer, and those who have been caregivers for loved ones with cancer. Tickers are $10, and this ticket includes dinner! Students who have survived cancer also have an opportunity to get their ticket sponsored by Aspirus.
There will be a silent auction, Survivor and Caregiver ceremonies, and informative presentations. Students can contact Brooke Basto at bebasto@mtu.edu to purchase a ticket. Please help support the American Cancer Society and all of the work they do to support people after they hear the words “you have cancer.”

Volunteers Wanted for Every Color of Eyes Art Project
Anne Beffel, Visual Arts professor with the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, is asking for volunteer participants in her Every Color of Eyes art project. The Every Color of Eyes art project makes visible our differences and our common humanity through the metaphor of eye color. Artist and Professor Anne Beffel, and assistants Rebekka Guyon, Alex Pohl, J.P. Rewer, and Phillip Wildner are gathering eye color samples as the basis of a long scroll painting of color-filled circles. For more information, follow this link for the press release.
Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning Saturday April 1st
Student Activities, the Undergraduate Student Government, and the Center for Diversity and Inclusion are hosting Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning, a spring semester day of service similar to the fall semester event, Make a Difference Day.
Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Check-in and educational demonstrations about Cesar Chavez will occur on Friday, March 31 in the Memorial Union Building Alumni Lounge from 3:00-5:00pm. If you’re unable to check-in on Friday, we will also have check-in on Saturday, April 1 in the same location from 8:00-10:00am
Volunteer projects will vary but most will happen locally from 10am-12pm. Everyone who participates will receive a free t-shirt for their volunteer efforts!
Winter Carnival 2018 Logo Contest
Be the one to design the Winter Carnival 2018 logo! All you have to do is draw a logo pertaining to the theme, “Myths and tales of our past, in our frigid forecast”, using up to 4 colors, and fit it into the circle. Turn in completed forms to the Blue Key office in MUB 106 or scan and email them to bluekey@mtu.edu by April 15th at 5:00 PM. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS GRADUATING IN APRIL 2017
The Michigan Tech Student Foundation (MTSF) and the Student Philanthropy Council invite you to make your upcoming commencement day even more meaningful by participating in the Class Tribute Program. It’s an opportunity for you to recognize someone special to you in the printed commencement program.
Not only will tributes appear in the commencement program, but they will also be displayed on the new video scoreboard in the ice arena! It’s gonna be crazy!
You have the option to upload a picture with your tribute! Maybe a special picture of you and your parents? Spouse? Best friend? Imagine that person/s sitting in the audience and seeing the photo and tribute appear on the big screen!

Food Pantry Volunteers Needed
Husky Food Access Network (HuskyFAN) is in need of volunteers to keep the food pantry open. The pantry is open from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.
Volunteers are needed for any amount of time they are able to offer.

University Launches CommUNITY Campaign
The CommUNITY campaign is a new campus-wide effort to promote the values set forth in Michigan Tech’s Strategic Plan.
“We Inspire Community” is the first value listed in the Strategic Plan. It states, “We inspire an engaged community that actively seeks improvement through acceptance and understanding.”
The CommUNITY campaign will include promotional materials and programming geared toward raising awareness and promoting actions that reflect these values.
Throughout the year, you will be introduced to multiple ways to engage with this campaign.

Sexual Violence Support Group
T.E.A.L (To Empower And Liberate) is a group that provides support to Michigan Tech Students who have experienced sexual violence including childhood sexual abuse or sexual assault. The group provides support to individuals of recent or past sexual violence in a safe, non-judgmental group. With the help of group support individuals can find understanding, help by sharing their struggles and triumphs with one another, and begin to put their lives back together. Through discussion, support and education we can help one another. This group meets every other Thursday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
