Dueling Pianos

Join MUB Board and Late Night Programming for Dueling Pianos on January 18th from 8 to 11 pm in the MUB Ballroom. From Beethoven to Bohemian Rhapsody, these dueling pianos will be singing and playing requests from the crowd. Bring your friends, bring your family, come and go as you please while you enjoy some good food and even better music.

Winter Break Bus

 

For the last few years, the Undergraduate Student Government has chartered a student bus for Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break. If you have purchased a ticket in the past, I’d like to thank you for making this a successful endeavor.

Winter Break is approaching, and tickets will be available to purchase online, this will allow students (or family/friends) to purchase a ticket with a credit card. Ticket sales will begin on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 9:00 AM. The cost for the trip will be $100 plus fees, regardless of whether you ride one-way or roundtrip, and regardless of your destination stop. All ticket sales are final. Tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Charity Drive

 

The College Republicans at Michigan Tech have begun their annual charity drive for Toys for Tots and the Western Upper Peninsula Food Bank. To donate, contact jfottman@mtu.edu or stmedley@mtu.edu for more details. Collection will be completed by Friday December 13th at 9:00 AM.
Additionally, the CR’s will also conduct their annual letter writing campaign to active duty service members on Friday December 6th at 6 PM in Fisher 129. All are welcome to come and send a letter to a service member.

Rosza Center Presents: Mozart Requiem Saturday

Michigan Tech Choirs and KSO Present Mozart Requiem Saturday

The Michigan Tech Concert Choir and conScience: The Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra and the Combined Choirs of Michigan Tech present Mozart Requiem, one of the most beloved masterpieces in the choir/orchestra repertoire. Unfinished at the Mozart’s death, the work was finished by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr. Featured in the film Amadeus, it is one of the most highly recognized pieces of Western classical music. The choirs and orchestra will also perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, another beloved work in the choral/orchestral canon. The concert will feature guest soloists Karen Beacom (soprano), Sandra Loy (alto), Robert Skylis (tenor), and Nathan Herfindahl (bass). Please join us for Mozart Requiem, on Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 pm, in the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts.

SDC Lap Pool

The lap pool and dive tank at the Student Development Complex will be closed for the first stage of renovation beginning Friday, December 13th. During this closure, various projects are scheduled to be completed in the pool area which includes removal of the bleachers and various tile work on the walls, benches and deck.
The lap pool is tentatively scheduled to reopen on Monday, January 20. The dive tank will remain closed until further notice. Details on the lap pool spring semester schedule and phase 2 of the renovation will be available at a later date.

Husky Innovate

 

The Outdoor Adventure Program will be hosting a 5-Day WFR course, taught by Wilderness Medical Associates, on January 6-10, 2020 here at Michigan Tech. This course is open to anyone and everyone! Class size is limited.

“Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the definitive course in medical training for outdoor educators, guides, SAR team members, and others who work or play in remote areas. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical, including all of the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments. The 5-day format is for individuals and sponsors with less time available for on-site training and requires 25 hours of pre-course preparation. Students must register at least 2 weeks before the course date. All students must complete all pre-course work prior to arrival on course.”
