Spring Fling 2021

Welcome to the World of Sweets, Huskies!

Spring Fling is approaching fast, and it’s time to head down the MAGICAL road to this year’s Candyland Edition!

Festivities will start Thursday, April 15 from 2:30-4:30 PM and Friday, April 16 from 12:00-2:00 PM & 2:30-4:30 PM throughout the main campus. The weather is calling for partly sunny and 45°!  This is a chance for you to interact with many of the amazing organizations at Michigan Tech. Make sure to stop by for FREE food, tie-dye shirts, inflatables, and more! And remember – masks and social distancing are required at all times. This event is brought to you by MUB Board (Memorial Union Board) and we can’t wait to see you there!!


Dumb Debate Night

Choose to argue for or against a variety of fun and/or strange ideas and proposals in USG’s annual Dumb Debate Night! Everyone who attends will get a free $5 Amazon gift card (while supplies last) and have lots of fun!

Are you First in your Family to Attend College?

On Thursday April 15, 2021, from 2:30-4:30 PM during Michigan Tech’s annual Spring Fling, we will be celebrating members of our campus community who are first-generation college students. Stop by (and socially distance) at our table outside the CDI, sign our “I’m First” banner and pick up a sticker. We will also be celebrating all of our first-gen accomplishments on social media during the week of April 12th-18th. Tag us and share your stories and photos with the hashtag #MTUFG.

The Keweenaw’s Second Annual Waste Reduction Drive

The Keweenaw’s 2nd Annual Waste Reduction Drive is this Saturday, 4/17 from 9am to 3pm in MTU Parking Lot 22!  Please bring us the following 6 categories of items:- Plastic film- Plastic bottle caps & rings- Foil-lined wrappers- Dental products- Razors- Egg cartonsPlease refer to the official guide for more details on the items we are collecting.  We are excited to see how much waste the Keweenaw community diverted from the landfill this year!


OAP Kayak Safety Clinic April 21

Are you dreaming of summer and those wonderful paddling months? We can’t get you out on the open water, but we can help you work on your skills in the pool. 
Sign up for the next OAP Kayak Safety Clinic and refine those skills to keep you safe on the water. We try to meet each participant at their level and encourage them to challenge themselves. 
Topics covered include kayak re-entry, de-watering your kayak, and wet exits. The focus will be on practice and improving technique; the more you do it the better you will get. 
All equipment will be provided including PFD’s, kayaks, paddle, and paddle floats. Appropriate swimwear required. We will be in the water between 4-9 feet deep, with lifeguards on duty during the event. 
Clinic will take place in the SDC lap pool on April 21, 8 – 10 p.m. No kayaking experience necessary. Must be at least 8 years old and able to swim at least 15 yards unassisted. A parent must be present for participants under age 14.

Earth Day Special Dinner

Brought to you by the MTU Sustainability Demonstration House and McNair dining hall: Please join us for the first ever EARTH DAY SPECIAL DINNER on Thursday 4/22! The dinner will take place in McNair Dining Hall from 4 – 7PM on Earth Day (4/22).  Both on- and off-campus students are welcome to join!

Camp Quality Upper Peninsula is looking for volunteers to become camp companions for children who are diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders.   This camp is a result of the partnership with Bay Cliff Health Camp, Camp Quality, and the Upper Peninsula Lions Childhood Cancer Program.  New programs are developing in the Upper Peninsula for Summer of 2021 (virtual, day and weekend camps) and eventually weeklong camps in 2022.  Volunteers can become a companion paired one- to -one with a camper at our weeklong camp, volunteer at our weekend events and help plan and implement other camper and family programs throughout the year.  
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.  Summer positions for 2021 include Virtual Camp preparation, attend Camp Kick Off Event in June, At Bay Cliff Health Camp and the Fall Family Weekend in September.  Volunteer positions require a short training following the interview process and background check.  For more information go to www.campqualityusa.org/mi  or contact Chris Smith, Upper Peninsula Lions Childhood Cancer Chairman at 1-313-682-8900 or lionchris906pcc@outlook.com

Teal Ribbons for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Description: During the Month of April there will be Teal Ribbons displayed throughout campus. Teal has become the signature color for sexual assault awareness and wearing a teal ribbon symbolizes supporting survivors of sexual violence. These ribbons are meant to create conversation on campus about how we can create a community in which all members feel safe and supported.

Cover the Cruiser at Spring Fling

Description: During Spring Fling, Public Safety and Police Services along with the student organizations SAVE and Triangle Fraternity will be covering a Michigan Tech police cruiser with sticky notes to show support for survivors for sexual and domestic violence. Show your support and stop by to help cover the cruiser, show your support for survivors and help us to prevent violence! #CopperCountrySAAM #MichiganTechSpeakUp

Puppy Parade for Awareness

Description: Walks are a great family activity! Come walk with us April 21 at 6pm at our downtown office to support survivors of sexual assault and abuse. This will be a covid friendly event.
