GRIT: A Leadership Workshop
Join Student Leadership and Involvement on Sunday, April 16th from 1-4:30 PM in MUB Ballroom A1 for GRIT, an interactive, half-day leadership workshop designed to help you develop in the areas of motivation, perseverance, habit formation, and goal-setting. Through self-assessments, peer-to-peer conversations, and large group activities, each individual will come to understand more about themselves and how they can achieve individual success. The skills learned can aid students in working towards any aspiration – from leading their student organization to increasing their GPA to running a marathon. Come join your peers as together we gain resilience and inspire tenacity!
Limited space is available. Please RSVP on Involvement Link by Thursday, April 13th. Every participant will receive free program materials, snacks, and a gift.
K-Day 2023 Registration is OPEN
Ahoy there! Are you ready to set sail? If so, then it’s time to grab your captain’s hat because K-Day Registration is officially open!
Reserve your spot now! Space and resources are limited, so do not delay! This year’s theme will have you sailing around at K-Day! Organizations can get creative with this nautical-themed student organization fair!
K-Day, or Keweenaw Day, is an annual tradition that will be held on Friday, September 8 beginning at noon. Students head to Chassell Centennial Park for an afternoon of food, fun, and music – it’s like a day out at sea! K-day typically sees 3000-4000 students so this is an important recruitment opportunity for your organization. Please have your organization’s event finalized before registering HERE.
Keep in mind, the person you list as the primary contact for your organization’s registration will be the one receiving all communications. They will need to keep an eye out for emails during the summer, in case of any changes that are made to K-Day due to any updates we may need to make.
Questions about K-Day can be directed to Leah Joy at rso@mtu or call 906-487-1963.
Class Tributes
The Class Tribute program offers you the opportunity to publicly recognize and honor someone who has played a special role in your life and in your Michigan Tech education, while supporting student scholarships. The Class Tribute program is a great way to honor those recognized, and all proceeds from the program are used to support scholarships for incoming students in the fall.
The deadline to submit a Class Tribute for Spring Commencement is Friday, April 7, 2023.

Call For Submissions: Humanities Media Student Showcase
The humanities department will be holding its first annual media student showcase on April 20th, 2023, designed to celebrate and raise awareness about the media and design work done by students in humanities media courses, by humanities majors, and those in the media production minor. It is often the case within media courses that one moves from project to project, and those projects inevitably remain unseen on a hard drive. The intent of the Media Student Showcase is to shake off the digital dust, bringing greater awareness to excellent design and media work produced in the humanities department each and every semester.
Professional visual designers from the community will join the event, providing applicants the opportunity to seek feedback on their work. A best in show, along with two runners-up awards will be announced during the event. Refreshments will be available.
The deadline to submit is April 7th, 2023. Submission guidelines and criteria can be found on the showcase page, https://www.mtu.edu/humanities/showcase/
Questions may be directed to organizers Tom Adolphs (tcadolph@mtu.edu) and Samantha Canevez (scanevez@mtu.edu)
We look forward to your submissions!

Plastic Film Reycling
In an effort to reduce plastic waste on campus and in the community, MTU’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience has started a new plastic film recycling program! This separate recycling stream allows us to collect a host of stretchy plastics like bags, bubble wrap, and shipping envelopes that would otherwise go in the landfill. Anyone is welcome to use the receptacles for plastic films generated at home or on campus. Bins are located across campus in most major academic and residential buildings.
Through a partnership with Tadych’s Marketplace, the collected plastic goes to Trex, a composite decking manufacturing company, to be made into long-lasting, sustainably sourced decking materials.
Accepted Plastics Include:
Grocery Bags • Ice Bags • Resealable Food Storage Bags • Cereal Box Liners • Case Overwrap • Bread Bags • Newspaper Sleeves • Dry Cleaning Bags • Bubble Wrap • Plastic Shipping Envelopes
All items must be clean, dry, and free of food and organic residue.
For more information and a complete list of acceptable items, visit NexTrex.
