GRIT: A Leadership Workshop
Join Student Leadership and Involvement on Sunday, March 23rd from 1:00-4:30 PM in MUB Alumni Lounge C for GRIT: A Leadership Workshop. GRIT is an interactive, half-day leadership workshop designed to help you develop in the areas of motivation, perseverance, habit formation, and goal-setting. Through self-assessments, peer-to-peer conversations, and large group activities, each individual will come to understand more about themselves and how they can achieve individual success. The skills learned can aid students in working towards any aspiration – from leading their student organization to increasing their GPA to running a marathon. Come join your peers as together we gain resilience and inspire tenacity!
Limited space is available. Please RSVP on Involvement Link by Monday, March 17th. Every participant will receive free program materials, snacks, and a gift.
Student Leadership Award Nominations Still Open!
Nominations are now open to celebrate and recognize the individual and group efforts of students involved across campus at the 31st Annual Student Leadership Awards! The nomination deadline for all awards is Sunday, March 9th by midnight. Each week leading up to the nomination deadline, we will highlight two awards for which you could nominate an outstanding member of our community!
Rising Star of the Year
The Rising Star of the Year Award celebrates students just beginning to shine as leaders, demonstrating a strong commitment to developing themselves, and making an impact at Michigan Tech. This award honors individuals who exhibit promise, determination, and a passion for learning through their involvement in campus life and beyond. They are the future leaders of our community, and their efforts deserve recognition.
Help us recognize tomorrow’s leaders! Students eligible for this award are first- and second-year undergraduate students. Nominate a student who exemplifies the qualities of a rising star.
Student Employee of the Year
The Student Employee of the Year Award honors a student who exemplifies responsibility, dependability, and outstanding follow-through in their work. This award recognizes individuals who not only excel in their job responsibilities but also take initiative and persevere, exceeding expectations while balancing their academic and employment commitments. These students play an integral role in supporting the Michigan Tech community, and their efforts deserve to be celebrated.
Your nomination helps shine a light on their hard work and dedication. Students eligible for this award must be employed on campus for at least one semester. Nominate an exceptional student employee today!

Black History Month Trivia
The Student Affairs CommUNITY Education Team and the Black Student Association (BSA) invite you to a fun evening of trivia in recognition and support of Black History Month.

Sustainability Film: ‘Troubled Water’
The 2025 Sustainability Film Series, coordinated by Michigan Tech Office of Sustainability and Resilience, will present February’s film Troubled Water at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 in Fisher 138. The film is free and everyone is welcome to attend. The film will be followed by a facilitated discussion and refreshments. Add Troubled Water to your Google calendar.
Troubled Water follows lifelong friends Chris Yahanda and William Wright as they embark on a 425-mile paddleboard journey across Lake Michigan and the Grand River, exploring environmental threats to the Great Lakes and discovering the power of community in protecting the waters they love.
Film sponsors include Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Keweenaw Co-op, Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative, WUP MiSTEM Network, Friends of the Land of Keweenaw (FOLK), Keweenaw Land Trust, MTU: Office of Sustainability and Resilience and the Hardwood Mass Timber Institute.

Valentine’s for Your Friends or Partner! – Valentine’s Day Bake Sale
The Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists (SMLS) is hosting a Valentine’s Day bake sale in the Library from 10am-3pm on February 14th. We will be selling baked goods and science-themed Valentine’s with candy. Everyone needs a sweet treat on Valentine’s Day, and what better way to show your love to friends and partners with quirky Valentine’s? Gluten, nut, and egg-free items will be offered to those with allergies and sensitivities, too!
Proceeds go to supporting our students in furthering their education at the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) conference in April. This will help cover travel, hotel, and food costs.

Spring 2025 Michigan Tech Aquatics – PADI Open Water Scuba Course
Dive in with us – Registration for our PADI Open Water SCUBA Course opens January 30, 2025 at 8:00am!
This PADI Open Water Diver Course is conducted over two weekends and includes: 10 hours of academic instruction (some coursework to be completed independently), 10 hours of confined water training (SDC Pool) and 4 certification dives in Lake Superior (Marquette). Upon registration, students will be given all required reading material and paperwork to complete prior to the start of the course. Class size is limited.

The Math Learning Center is Hiring!
Do you like math? Do you enjoy helping others learn math? Have you been told that you’re good at teaching people? Then you should apply to work for the Math Learning Center!
The MLC is currently hiring new coaches to start work in Fall 2025.
Prospective coaches must be planning to complete or have completed the following courses: Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Any level of statistics is beneficial but not required.
All applicants must take the Basic Skills Test, which designed to identify applicants with strong algebraic foundations. The test will be administered on February 12th and 13th from 6-7pm in Fisher 130. Applicants only need to attend one session. If you cannot make either date, please email mlc@mtu.edu. More information on the Basic Skills Test can be found on the application.

MUB Board Presents:
Join us for an architectural adventure! Model dinosaurs will be hidden in the snow around campus and will be marked with X’s, find them and bring them to the MUB table in the library! Watch out though because not every marked spot will lead to a dino! Those that find the most dinos will be awarded a dinosaur costume. Make sure to remember where you found each dino, the search begins at 9 am! Stay tuned on our social media for updated counts of how many dinos are left!
Fisher 138 will be jamming with some Music Trivia on February 19th! We will be hosting two rounds of one-hour games, each hour filled with a game of Kahoot and a game of Jeopardy. There will be prizes for the top five in each Kahoot game, and the top four will move on to a game of Jeopardy! Game 1 is set to start at 6pm, and Game 2 is set to start at 7pm.
A Week of Joyful
HuskyEats will be hosting another week of celebrations for their Joyful Series, this one called Delightful, during the week of February 10th -14th.
The week is action packed with events and activities for students to participate in while enjoying a meal in the dining halls. The mission of joyful is to create moments of joy through food and delightful also encourages students to carry out random acts of kindness (like sending a Thank You card). Info Sessions for the Aerospace Enterprise at Michigan Tech
The Aerospace Enterprise recruiting process has opened! We are looking for students who want to become prominent engineers and leaders in the Aerospace industry for the Fall 2025 semester. There will be information sessions February 18 & 19th 7-8pm in DOW 642. Applications are due by March 9th.
The Aerospace Enterprise, founded in 2001 by Dr. Lyon King, Professor of Space Systems, has aided in providing several skill sets and leadership experience to the hundreds of members that have gone through the program. The program boasts over a 95% job placement in the aerospace industry, and allows you to earn senior design credit while gaining valuable skills and networking.
Current Mission Development
Auris, U.S Air Force Research Labs NS-10
- Auris is an ongoing mission in the NS-10 competition sponsored by U.S.A.F.R.L.
- There are 2 mission purposes,
- Map radio-frequency interference patterns of geostationary satellites, using the Dish EchoStar XIV satellite as a known target.
- Determine the point-source of radio-frequency emissions for geostationary satellites, using the Dish EchoStar XIV satellite as a known target.
- The Auris mission is planned to launch in early 2026.
Stratus, N.A.S.A CubeSat Launch Initiative
- Stratus is an ongoing mission in the N.A.S.A C.S.L.I program.
- There is 1 mission purpose,
- Calculation of average cloud coverage data over various North American regions utilizing on-board image processing to determine ideal solar radiation regions for solar-panel farm placement.
- The Stratus mission is planned to launch in early 2026.
Descensus, N.A.S.A CanSat
- Descensus is an annual small sat competition for in atmosphere research.
- This year focuses on 1 mission purpose,
- Maintain a constant, steady video recording from the payload at a provided angle and descent speed to show key moments during flight.
- The Descensus mission is planned to launch in summer 2025.
Connexus, Aerospace Enterprise
- Connexus is an internal mission to further enhance the inner work of the enterprise.
- This mission focuses on 1 mission purpose,
- Create an Aerospace Enterprise server to encapsulate a file storage system and organize the enterprise while maintaining a proper paper trail to ensure accountability and a proper workflow system.
- The Connexus team strives to be operating in early 2026.
