Please meet with your academic advisor for help selecting appropriate courses!

Dean’s Corner

All first-year students (<24 credits) should receive midterm grades. Students with 2 or more “U” or unsatisfactory grades will be asked to meet with a staff member to make a plan moving forward.

The last day for ALL students to drop a class with a “W” is March 21, 2025. First-year students need to complete a form and email it to schedule@mtu.edu. All other students can email schedule@mtu.edu indicating which classes they want dropped.

Don’t forget to practice healthy habits to avoid getting sick by regularly washing your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer. Make sure you get enough sleep, maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and stay hydrated. If you will miss three or more days of class, you may need an excused absence, follow the absence policy and email your instructors.

Are You Going Through An Officer Transition In Your RSO?

In Student Leadership and Involvement, we often hear from groups that had a “bad transition” between student organizations leaders. They lack historical knowledge, miss deadlines they weren’t familiar with, and have to spend valuable time recreating what should already exist. Are you looking to ensure your organization’s leadership doesn’t end up in this challenging position?

Attend HuskyLEAD: Effective Leadership Transitions to learn effective strategies for:

-Retaining digital documents

-Carrying on consistent relationships with campus partners

-Sharing necessary information with incoming officers

-Hosting effective transition meetings

A variety of resources and sample documents will be shared. Time will be provided throughout the workshop for attendees to take action steps on transition planning. It is recommended that multiple organization leaders attend together and that they bring laptops with access to any relevant organizational documents.

Date: Wednesday, March 19th

Time: 4:00-5:00 PM

Location: Fisher 129

If you are interested in attending, please register here. Additionally, if you have any questions about this event, please email Student Leadership & Involvement at activites@mtu.edu. We hope to see you there!

Shuttle Service Updates

To all our valued shuttle passengers,

First and foremost, thank you for your continued patience as we work diligently to address capacity issues and routing adjustments due to a change in bus size. We appreciate your support and feedback as we strive to improve your transportation experience.

To enhance our service, we are excited to announce the addition of an extra bus, which will be called the Day Shadow. This Shadow bus will operate during the following hours:

  • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM
  • 4:55 PM – 6:00 PM

Additionally, many of you have requested an extra stop in Upper Daniel Heights, and we are pleased to inform you that we have made this happen! The new stop will be located in front of the MTU Preschool on the west side of Upper Daniel Heights.

Another significant improvement includes adjustments to the Hancock bus schedule,  bringing it closer to its previous timetable. The Hancock bus will now begin at 7:20 AM, with its first stop at Northern Mutual. Additionally,

  • The Hancock bus will no longer travel through Daniel Heights before stopping at the MUB
  • It will drop passengers off at the MUB, complete one round through  Daniel Heights, stop at the MUB again, and then depart for Hancock at the top of the hour.
  • Decals to identify our Hancock and main Husyk Campus Shuttle have been installed. It is our hope this helps passengers understand which bus to get on.

We hope these changes will effectively address our current capacity challenges and enhance overall rider satisfaction. These updates will take effect starting Monday, February 17. 2025.

In addition, we have been collaborating with the newly formed Transportation Advocacy Group to gather valuable feedback from passengers like you. To assist in this effort, we have launched a survey to collect data on our shuttle service. Please find the QR code and survey link attached:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdi_YvAXegKgmIo-QnU-IbXQmITTq0iRwUUj8gOIB4X3ZYkYw/viewform

We encourage all passengers to participate and share their thoughts!

To keep you informed, we have also updated our schedules on Tripshot, our website, and digital boards. As always, if you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to stop by, call or email Transportation Services.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sean Connors

Manager, Transportation Services

Mist of Magic: Poetry on Love and Loss by Dr. Pritam Mandal (Adjunct Assistant Professor, Physics)

Dear Poetry Lovers and Book Enthusiasts,

Dr. Pritam Mandal, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physics at Michigan Tech, is thrilled to announce the publication of his first poetry book, Mist of Magic: 30 Heartfelt Poems on Love and Loss!
Written during his PhD journey, this collection is deeply personal, capturing the raw emotions of love, longing, and loss that shape our lives. Each poem reflects moments of beauty, pain, and the resilience of the human heart. If you appreciate poetry that speaks to the soul, this book may resonate with you.

“Thank you in advance for your support! I’d love to hear your thoughts—your reviews and reflections would mean the world to me.” — Dr. Pritam Mandal

– Mist of Magic is now available on Amazon:

– USA: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXRVT2VF
– India: https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0DXRVT2VF
– Available worldwide on Amazon in respective regions.

Dr. Mandal also shares his passion for creative writing and its connection to science:
“I believe poetry and creative writing can enhance our ability to visualize and communicate complex ideas. Expressing emotions and thoughts through words refines our imagination—an essential skill in both literature and science. Translating abstract ideas into vivid imagery is central to both poetry and physics.”

About the Book:
A shy, introspective boy from the plains of Bengal and a free-spirited girl from a mountain town in India—both in their early twenties, both dreamy and daring—find their paths entwined while pursuing PhDs at a picturesque university in the USA.

She, a researcher immersed in rainforest biodiversity, moves through life with effortless grace, her radiant smile captivating many. He, lost in the mysteries of astrophysics, quietly drowns in the depths of his unspoken love. While he hesitates, she, with an elegant maturity, navigates the affections of admirers, unknowingly becoming the muse of his silent longing.

Their story begins on a golden summer evening at a professor’s riverside pub. From that moment, their journey unfolds like a mountain river—meandering through valleys, over loops and rocks, through rugged terrains and soft meadows, braving thick and thin woods—until, one day, it vanishes into the dark unknown.

But when she finally reaches for his hand, he finds his voice—not in words, but in music. To You and Why Do You Love Me So Much become the melodies of his heart, echoing a love both profound and fleeting.

As she earns her doctorate and disappears into an untraceable horizon, he is left with nothing but his verses—poems born of longing, love, and loss.

This collection is his diary, a testament to a love that burned bright and slipped away, leaving behind only poetry.

Author’s Brief Bio:
Pritam Mandal hails from Tisha, a village near Kolkata in Hooghly district, West Bengal, India. He earned his PhD in Physics in the USA after completing an M.Sc. in Physics from IIT Bombay, India, and later pursued postdoctoral research at KAUST, Saudi Arabia.

His debut novel, Rains from a Smoky Sky (2017), is written as the diary of a village girl navigating a world where science, technology, and human resilience intersect to combat pollution and inspire hope. Currently under revision, the book is not available for purchase.

Beyond academia, Pritam has served as the founding principal of an undergraduate college in India and has taught Physics at both high school and university levels. He currently teaches Physics at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, where he lives with his wife, Libia, and their daughter, Isha.

An avid reader, traveler, and explorer, Pritam finds solace in poetry, storytelling, and cricket while delving into the mysteries of the universe through physics and verse. He weaves emotions into words that resonate across time and space, driven by a deep desire to help build a sustainable society and a thriving Earth for all species.
