Make a Difference Day – Step Up and Serve Your Community

Every fall, Huskies come together to make a real impact—and this year is no different. On Saturday, October 25, join Student Leadership and Involvement for Make a Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Students, faculty, and staff will team up to support local organizations, agencies, and community members through meaningful volunteer projects.

What to Expect
Projects will vary depending on community needs and may include painting, weeding, planting, raking, organizing, cleaning, and more. It’s a great opportunity to get involved and make a visible difference in just one day.

Know Someone Who Needs Help?
If you know a local agency or individual who could use volunteer support, let us know. Submit a request through our site registration form or share it with someone who could benefit from the help of Husky volunteers.

Ready to Volunteer?
Sign up on our GivePulse community service website starting Monday, September 22 at 8:00 AM. Registration closes on Monday, October 20 at 8:00 AM.
Please note: Each member of your group or organization must register individually.

Event Check-In
All volunteers must check in between 8:30 and 9:00 AM on October 25 in the Commons on the ground floor of the MUB. Information packets will be handed out at check-in, and groups will head to their assigned service locations. Some sites may require driving, so plan accordingly.

This is your chance to get involved, meet new people, and support your community in a big way. Let’s make this Make a Difference Day the best one yet.

Unlock Your Leadership Potential: LeaderShape Institute Applications Now Open

It’s that time of the year again. Applications to attend the 30th LeaderShape Institute at Michigan Tech are now open!

By leading with passion, integrity, and a healthy disregard for the impossible, participants explore who they are and the impact that they want to have on communities working towards a more caring, just and equitable society.

This year The Leadership Institute will run from Saturday, December 13th through Tuesday, December 16th. Learn more about The LeaderShape Institute and where to apply on the Student Leadership & Involvement website

Stand Up. Speak Out. Hazing Prevention Week

Let’s build a safer, more inclusive Husky community—together. Michigan Tech invites all students to join the upcoming Hazing Prevention Week events happening throughout late September and early October.

Hazing isn’t just a tradition—it’s a dangerous, harmful practice that affects campus communities across the nation. This year’s events focus on building healthy, safe traditions and making sure all students feel a strong sense of belonging.

Here’s what’s happening:

Haze: Documentary Screening & Community Conversation
– Tuesday, September 30
– Fisher 139
Watch this powerful documentary and take part in a guided discussion about hazing culture, prevention, and how we can make change together.

FAQ: Federal Hazing Law & Michigan Tech Policy Updates
– Thursday, October 2
– Fisher 125
Learn how new national laws and recent changes at Michigan Tech are shaping how we define, report, and prevent hazing on campus.

Pop-Up Prevention Tables
– Throughout the week of Sept. 29–Oct. 3
– Various locations across campus
Stop by our tables to learn more, talk with peer educators, and make your own button showing your commitment to safe, healthy traditions.

Get involved. Be part of the solution.
Whether you’re a student leader, a first-year Husky, or just curious to learn more—you have a role to play in ending hazing at Michigan Tech. Let’s lead with respect, tradition, and safety.

Important Information for Parents/Guardians:
To register your child for aquatics programs this coming fall, you’ll need to:
1. Create your account *Note: Due to system constraints, only current students, faculty, and staff may use an MTU email. All others must use or create a different email address to create an account.
2. Add your children as your affiliates (with their date of birth)
3. Register your child through their affiliate profile (profile options in top right corner), not your own, for any program with an age requirement
This ensures accurate participant info and correct age group placement.

Create your accounts early to be ready!
Additional information on how to create your user account can be found here.
Additional information on how to create your child’s affiliate account can be found here.

Thank you for your support as we make this exciting transition! We’re confident this new system will offer a more user-friendly and efficient experience for all.
