Looking for Students to Determine Special Budget Groups

Undergraduates, now’s your chance to share your voice in important funding decisions made by the Undergraduate Student Government! Want to be on the other side of the table for budget hearings? This is the way! We need people to join our committee to review all Special Budget Groups (SBGs).

Every two years, we must review every Special Budget Group (USG, SLS, WMTU, The Lode, Film Board, MUB Board) along with any club that wants to become an SBG. This involves auditing financial records, reviewing events and inventory, and ultimately making a decision on what organizations remain/become SBGs for 2027 and 2028!

Student Assembly members of this committee will be asked to:

  • Attend 2-3 meetings in the remainder of the fall semester (to prepare)
  • Attend a 3 hour retreat (lunch provided) to develop questions for the hearings
  • Attend at maximum 3 hours of supplemental committee meetings in the Spring
  • Attend the 3-4 total hours of hearings where organizations will share their reasoning and answer questions by the committee!

Questions can be sent to David at usg-treasurer@mtu.edu, and all submissions are due by November 7th

CAST ANNOUNCEMENT: Michigan Tech Theatre Presents Men on Boats. Reserve your Free Student Rush Tickets

Michigan Tech Theatre is thrilled to announce the cast for Men on Boats, a play by Jacklyn Backhaus, directed by Nich Radcliffe.

Men On Boats tells the ‘mostly’ true story of ten explorers who set off in 1869 to chart the Green and Colorado Rivers under the guidance of John Wesley Powell, a one-armed Civil War Veteran.

This satirical retelling of historical events is made even more interesting by the author’s insistence that all characters are to be played by anyone except white males, who made up the entirety of the actual expedition. This casting twist puts the words and actions of the characters into a different context, providing plenty of laughs as well as extremely touching moments.

“I hope the audience leaves the theatre laughing,” says Radcliffe, “And I hope that laughter makes it easier to be honest with themselves, about the world, and about the place and the voice everyone deserves in it.”

The production features a talented cast of Michigan Tech students:

John Wesley Powell – Paige Harsevoort

William Dunn – Celia Peters

John Colton Sumner – Zoe Oetjens

Old Shady – Leona Lins

Bradley – Ysa Cerbo

O. G. Howland – Sebastian Dash

Seneca Howland – Drew Karimi

Frank Goodman – Lexi Meyer

Hall – Abby Pilon

Hawkins – Alyssa Johnson
