PCB Workshop with HSTEM Enterprise and BMES

Biomedical engineers often work with electronics to create tools that sense, measure, and interact with the human body. This workshop introduces students to the fundamentals of circuit design through a real-world example: a custom controller for lab instrumentation.

In this two-part series, participants will:
– Session 1 (Nov 14): Learn how to design a schematic from scratch, using best practices and validation techniques to ensure accuracy.
– Session 2 (Nov 17): Get hands-on with PCB layout tools to turn your schematic into a physical design. While we won’t fabricate the boards this semester, you’ll leave with a complete layout ready for future prototyping.

What is a PCB?
A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is the physical platform that connects and supports electronic components. It’s essential in biomedical devices—from pacemakers to lab sensors—and knowing how to design one empowers engineers to prototype, troubleshoot, and innovate.

Who should attend?
This free workshop is open to all students interested in biomedical instrumentation, electronics, or hands-on design. No prior experience is required—just bring your curiosity and a laptop if you have one!

Uncover Engineering Marvels with Robot in 3 Days 2026

Hey robot enthusiasts and FIRST Alumni,

Copper Country Robotics at Michigan Tech is hosting the second year of Robot in 3 Days at Michigan Tech, where the most dedicated FIRST Robotics students will ideate, design, build, program, and market a robot from scratch in just 72 hours! Starting on January 10th, 2025 at 12:00PM, we will work as a group to pioneer these engineering challenges. This year’s FIRST Robotics Competition game: REBUILT, presents great challenges to high school teams across the world, and colleges throughout the midwest and beyond are ramping up to show our skills and expertise as a core pillar of robot ideation and design. We’re looking for students to join our crew and help us become an example across the entire Upper Peninsula for what a sound and beautiful robot looks like.

Students participating in the challenge don’t have to be engineers (or even good at building). We need all sorts of skills ranging from programming, marketing, electronics, streaming, and presenting to make this run. Half of the battle is streaming this across the nation on our social media platforms and highlighting the expertise and design that makes Michigan Tech special!

If you want to get involved, RSVP before December 1st on our Involvement Link. In addition, check out our 2025 Robot in 3 Days robot, Blizzard T. Robot

Questions? Email ccr-contact@mtu.edu to get in touch with our Executive Board and RI3D Committee. We look forward to seeing you on the team!
