Spring 2026 Blood Drive – Critical Need for Blood!

The American Red Cross is currently experiencing a severe blood shortage due to winter weather and illness across the country. Hospital needs remain high while available donations have decreased.

The blood drive will take place on Tuesday, February 10, and Wednesday, February 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the MUB Ballroom. Blood collected during this drive has already been allocated to help patients in need, with a goal of 168 units each day.

Donating blood is a simple way to make a real impact. Every donation helps save lives. Over the past month, the national blood supply has dropped by 35%, and more than 500 blood drives have been canceled due to winter storms. The shortage is especially critical for blood types O-, O+, A-, and B-. Donors with these blood types are encouraged to donate red cells through a Power Red donation.

The American Red Cross strongly encourages donors to schedule an appointment in advance to ensure a smooth experience.

All donors will receive a $20 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Donors who sign up in advance may also receive a limited-edition Red Cross x Metallica T-shirt and guitar pick and be entered to win an autographed ESP Snakebyte guitar.

For more information, visit the Student Leadership and Involvement page.

Do you want to travel for Spring Break?

Limited space remains on the Alternative Spring Break Maryland trip! If you want to be part of this life-changing journey, apply here.

In collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, this Alternative Spring Break trip will travel to Bel Air, Maryland, to help provide affordable housing opportunities. As part of the Collegiate Challenge program, participants will contribute by assisting in home construction projects and volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, directly supporting families in need of safe and stable housing.

This trip will depart early on Friday, February 27, in two Michigan Tech minivans. Participants will stay in an Airbnb near the volunteer site. Most meals will be prepared and provided by the group itself. Immersion experiences, educational opportunities, and group reflection will be incorporated throughout the week. The group will depart from Maryland on Saturday, March 7th, and return to campus the following day.

When asked, “If someone were considering attending an Alternative Spring Break trip, what would you tell them?” one 2023 participant shared,

“Do it. You will not only impact another community, but will reignite your passion for serving those within your own. Alternative Spring Break trips are the perfect way to step just outside of your comfort zone with fellow students and discover what drives you. You will get to meet not only incredible community leaders, but grow connections with peers that may be outside your normal circle. It’s a great opportunity to see what issues others are facing and recognize what you can do to really change the world while building community with your own university.”

The total cost for the trip is $500 per student, which includes all food, travel, accommodations, and program materials.

Cultural Events Fund

The Cultural Events Fund at Michigan Technological University was established in 2018 to support student-led cultural events and programs that promote learning and cultural appreciation on campus. The fund is administered by a collaborative committee and allocates funding using a rubric to ensure fairness and impact.

The purpose of the fund is to increase campus awareness of diverse cultures through events such as cultural nights, guest speakers, art displays, workshops, and celebrations. Past funded events include African Night, Chinese Night, Pow Wows, Diwali Night, and Chinese New Year celebrations.

Student organizations seeking funding must apply at least four weeks prior to their event, meet rubric requirements, and submit a post-event summary following their program. Organizations are also required not to solicit current donors.

Those interested in supporting the fund can give through the Michigan Tech Giving Page by designating their gift to The Cultural Events Fund.

NMDP Marrow Registry Drive

The Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists (SMLS) is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to help potential donors sign up for the marrow registry! Being a donor can help save a life, and is often a rewarding experience.

On February 18th, stop by the library any time between 10am to 3pm to see if you qualify for the registry. You will then swab your mouth. After you swab, NMDP will reach out at any point to let you know if you’re a match! Please reach out to smls@mtu.edu for more information. An NMDP representative will be at our table to answer any specific questions you may have!

Not sure if you’re in the registry? Don’t worry, swabbing twice is okay, and better than never registering!

Meet the Cast of Proof a play by David Auburn LIVE in McArdle Theatre, February 19-21

Join us this month for David Auburn’s Proof, directed by Nich Radcliffe and featuring a talented cast of Michigan Tech faculty and students:

Catherine: played by Katherine Rauscher

Robert: played by Charles Wallace

Claire: played by Paige Harsevoort

Hal: played by Brock Maloney

The story follows Catherine, who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, Robert, a famous mathematician. Following his death, she must navigate the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire, and the intentions of Hal, a former student searching through her father’s 103 notebooks.

“I’d call it a drama with jokes, which is actually my favorite kind of play…and there is a bit of a mystery as well,” says director Nich Radcliffe.

Despite the mathematical title, Katherine Rauscher (playing Catherine) notes: “Proof can come across as a very serious play. It definitely deals with a lot of very serious topics, but there’s some humor to it as well. But what it is not, is a play about math.”

Reserve your FREE Michigan Tech Student Rush Tickets

Michigan Tech Students are entitled to one free ticket for yourself and one free ticket for a plus one to accompany you. Note: Student must be present at the performance with a valid HuskyCard for guest ticket to be valid.

Support the 2026 Career Fair!

Help us make the Spring 2026 Career Fair a success! The event takes place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 12:00-5:00 at the Student Development Complex. We need people for a wide range of shifts throughout the day – some are more forward-facing, some are operational, but all help us keep the high standard of event excellence that makes Michigan Tech stand out!
