Fall Blood Drive 2026
Roll up your sleeves and make a difference this fall! The Fall Blood Drive is a chance to give back to your community and help provide lifesaving blood to patients who need it.
Our goal is 190 units, and every donation gets us closer. Whether you’re a first-time donor or a regular blood donor, your donation can make a real impact.
The Fall Blood Drive will be held in the MUB Ballroom:
- Wednesday, September 9 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Thursday, September 10 | 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
If you give blood from September 1st to the 20th, you get an exclusive Red Cross x Hello Kitty collectible item, while they last!
The American Red Cross recommends making an appointment in advance, but walk-ins are welcome based on availability. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or make an appointment online.

Keweenaw Day 2026
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: K-Day! Join us Friday, September 11, from 1:00–5:00 p.m. at Chassell Centennial Park for an afternoon packed with games, food, activities, and plenty of opportunities to put your skills to the test.
Grab your fellow agents and get ready to explore everything K-Day has to offer. From tasty snacks and competitive games to fun activities, there will be something for everyone.
Need a ride to the mission site? Free shuttles will be available to get you to and from Chassell Centennial Park, so leave the driving to us and focus on your mission.
Before heading out for your mission, make sure you’re prepared for an afternoon outside! We recommend:
- Applying sunscreen and bringing some to reapply.
- Wearing closed-toed shoes. Some activities require them.
- Bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the afternoon.
- Dressing for the weather and bringing anything else you’ll need to stay comfortable outside.
Before reporting for duty, make sure you complete the liability waiver. After completing it, save your email verification and show it to a K-Day volunteer at check-in to receive your wristband. Participants under 18 will need a parent or guardian to complete the Sponsored Programs Release, Waiver of Liability, and Assumption of Risk Form for Minors and return it to activities@mtu.edu. Minor participants can then visit the Student Leadership and Involvement check-in table to receive their wristband.

Homecoming Team Registration Closes Tonight!
It’s that amazing time of the fall semester—Homecoming! This year’s theme, Spies, is all about Husky spirit, friends, and a mission you won’t want to miss. Homecoming runs Sunday, September 13 through Saturday, September 19, but the real heart of the celebration is you—your team and your court.
Whether you join with your student organization, your residence hall, or just a group of friends, forming a Homecoming team is the best way to experience the week. Teams can compete or simply participate for fun, but either way, you’ll get to show off your Husky pride while making unforgettable memories.

Start With 10 Challenge: Give Back & Earn Incentives
Start With 10 is underway, and it’s a great way to kick off your semester by volunteering in the community!
Start With 10 challenges students who are new to GivePulse to complete 10 hours of community service to start off the Fall semester. If you created your account after November 1, 2025, you’re eligible to participate!
Here’s how you can participate:
- Log all those hours on GivePulse by October 31st
- Join the Michigan Technological University GivePulse group
- Complete 10 hours of community service (between 8/31 – 10/31)
Once you’ve reached the 10-hour mark, you will receive an email from Student Leadership and Involvement to claim your prizes:

Register for LeaderShape Catalyst!
The Fall 2026 session of Catalyst™ will be held on Saturday, September 26th from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM in the Memorial Union Building. All participants will receive free workshop materials, lunch, and a gift. Please RSVP by the end of the day on Saturday, September 20th, so we can ensure we have adequate food and supplies for all participants.
What is Catalyst?
Catalyst™ is a great entry into the LeaderShape® community. It is a one-day program focused on developing your own authentic path, connecting to groups and causes you care about, and committing to a plan to be a catalyst for yourself and the groups you’re part of.
Throughout the program, you’ll consider powerful questions that move you towards action:
Am I on the right path? Who do I want to be? How can I connect with other like-minded individuals? In small-group dialogue, large-group interaction, and personal reflection, you’ll learn alongside others who also want to start something extraordinary.
National Voter Registration Day
Stop by any of our voter registration tables across campus on September 15th to learn more about voting as a college student!
Quick-use QR codes will be available to check your voter registration status, register to vote, or request an absentee ballot.
The Michigan Secretary of State will also be available to directly register voters inside the library from 10 AM- 3 PM.
This event is hosted by the Voter Engagement Coalition. All efforts are non-partisan.

Volunteer at the 2026 Festival of Nations!
Celebrate cultures from around the world while giving back to the Michigan Tech and Keweenaw communities! Volunteers are needed for the 2026 Festival of Nations on Saturday, September 19, at the Dee Stadium and Houghton Waterfront.
Since 1989, the Festival of Nations has celebrated the cultural diversity of the Houghton and Hancock communities. This year’s theme is “The 7 Wonders of the World,” and volunteers will play an important role in making the event welcoming, safe, and fun for everyone.
Several volunteer opportunities are available throughout the day, including:
- Supervising inflatables and helping families participate safely
- Welcoming and checking in fellow volunteers
- Assisting attendees and keeping festival spaces clean
- Monitoring the waterfront and reporting safety concerns
- Supporting access control during event setup
Most shifts are only two hours long, making volunteering an easy way to get involved while still having time to enjoy the food, performances, activities, and cultural celebrations offered throughout the festival.
Whether you are looking to complete service hours, meet new people, support the community, or experience one of the Keweenaw’s most celebrated traditions, we would love to have you join us.
The Festival of Nations will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Volunteer registration will remain open through Friday, September 18, at 11:55 p.m.

Make an Impact: Join the MLK Day Planning Committee!
Looking to gain leadership experience, build your resume, and give back to the campus and Houghton communities? The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Committee is looking for passionate student leaders to help bring our next day of service to life!
MLK Day is an incredible Michigan Tech tradition where students, staff, and local community members come together to honor Dr. King’s vision through meaningful action. As a committee member, you’ll help pitch project ideas, coordinate logistics, organize student volunteer groups, and shape how Tech honors Dr. King’s legacy.
Meetings are bi-weekly to start, picking up frequency only as we get closer to the event. A When2Meet will be sent out to find a time that works best with everyone’s class schedules.

Fall Study Away Fair
Stop by Michigan Tech’s Fall Study Away Fair Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the Husky Statue to learn more about the various study away opportunities available to MTU students!
Study Away will have representatives and resources available from several different study away program types and international education opportunities.
Attending the Fall Study Away Fair is a great way to gain an initial understanding of:

- Semester international exchange university partnerships

Mexico Spring Break – A Study Away Experience
Spend spring break in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula while earning up to 3 credits toward your essential education experience!
This immersive study abroad course will take us to five different types of communities in the Yucatán, from rural villages to over-touristed resort towns, to see how tourism-led development is impacting people, places, and environments. We’ll jump into local contexts with hands-on activities to experience the joy and challenge of living in this part of the world today.
The course fee is $3,100, which includes everything except 1 meal a day. Check out our website for more information and to apply!

Career Services is looking for student volunteers to support Career Fest throughout September and Fall Career Fair on Sept. 29. Tasks include setup, teardown, employer assistance, and general event support.

Upcycled Food Operations (UFO) delivers leftovers and ready-to-eat meals from Wadsworth Dining Hall directly to HuskyFAN food pantry locations. UFO meals are free and available in the Fisher Hall food pantry, the SDC Community Fridge, and the Library Cupboard as supplies last.

Mind Trekkers is packing up for Escanaba and the OneUP Hidden Coast Festival on October 13-14, and we’re looking for enthusiastic students to join the crew!

This is a great opportunity to gain event experience, connect with employers, and contribute to one of Michigan Tech’s largest annual events.
Support Keweenaw Day!
K-Day, short for Keweenaw Day, is Michigan Tech’s annual registered student organization fair with around 200 groups in attendance. Each year on K-Day, classes release at noon so our students can learn about ways to get involved and connected at Tech. K-Day typically sees around 3,500-4,000 students participate, so we can’t host it on our own! We rely on student volunteers to assist with tasks such as set-up, check-in, bag distribution, risk management, and food monitoring.
Support the Saturday Store!
We are looking for eager volunteers who are willing to do some hands-on tasks! You might find yourself building something with wood, sewing something, or another activity. Come with a positive attitude and excitement to help the community!
