Campus Wide Changes in Computing

Message from Dr. Merz:

I want to take this opportunity to welcome each of you to a new year and to communicate a campus-wide change involving computers. Returning students will  notice that the large computer lab on the ground floor of the Academic Offices building no longer exists. This is the result of a university-wide process to centralize IT activities. Throughout the campus some computer labs have been closed,  some have been redesigned and no doubt new ones will appear; this is an evolving process that will continue. Open access labs are no longer provided, or managed, by individual units, such as the School of Business and Economics. The “computer kiosk” located in room G004 of our building is under the control of IT. In that room, a list is posted of all open labs on the campus, which you as student of the School of Business and Economics  are entitled to use. The recent campus-wide changes affect faculty and staff too. When I have computer issues, I either email it-help@mtu.edu, call 7-1111 or go to the service desk located in the University Library. IT installed several printers on my laptop  allowing me to  print in several buildings; you too can have this capability. Like faculty and staff, students should contact IT to address computer issues they need resolved. Have a good fall semester.
