APMP Accepting Applications for 2024-25

Our Applied Portfolio Management Program (APMP) is now accepting applications for the 2024-25 Academic Year–DUE Mon, MARCH 11.   

Program participation, if accepted, begins in Summer 2024 with FIN4801 enrollment and continues through Spring 2025.

Go to the APMP website to download the application if you want to manage over $2 million in the stock market next year. 

This opportunity is open to ALL students regardless of major.

Idea Pitch Competition – Registration Now Open

Do you have an innovative idea that could disrupt the norm and redefine “business as usual”? If so, we invite you to showcase your innovation at the upcoming Fall 2023 Idea Pitch Competition. Register here

Date and Time: October 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Location: Great Lakes Research Center, Room 202

At the Idea Pitch Competition, you will have a platform to present your groundbreaking idea in an engaging community setting. Each contestant will have THREE MINUTES to captivate the audience and judges with their visionary ideas. Judges will vote to select top pitches and award cash prizes to the top contestants:

  • First place: $200
  • Second place: $100
  • Third place: $50
  • Honorable mention: $25 
  • Audience favorite: $25

COB Golf Etiquette Outing (Sun, Sept 24)

We are excited to announce an upcoming event that will provide an excellent opportunity for both beginner golfers and those interested in learning about golf etiquette. Don’t worry if you’re new to golf; this outing is designed to be inclusive and educational for all skill levels. 

  • Event Details: Date: Sunday, September 24th 
  • Golfers will be placed on tee times from 3-5pm 
  • Location: Portage Lake Golf Course

During this outing, you will have the chance to:

Learn Golf Etiquette: Our experienced “mentors” will provide insights into golf etiquette, rules, and the dos and don’ts on the golf course, making it an ideal event for beginners. Network and Socialize: Golf is not just a sport; it’s a valuable tool for building relationships, both personally and professionally. You’ll have the chance to connect with fellow students who share your interest in golf and business.

Practice Your Swing: For those who are new to golf or looking to improve their game, there will be opportunities to practice your swing and get out on the course!

Finding an Internship or Full time employment

As we approach the next recruitment season for internships, co-ops and full time employment here are some ways to help you create a successful search.

  • Update your profile in Handshake-this allows employers to find you and you to find employers. Jobs are posted year-round.
  • Attend Career Fair (Spring 2022 Virtual on Wed, Feb 16, 10 am-7 pm; register and schedule for employer meetings prior to event)
  • Attend CareerFEST (Spring 2022 In-Person from 11 am-2 pm Jan 31, Feb 1, Feb 7; register and schedule to meet with potential employers prior to the event)
  • Get involved with a College of Business club/organization. Many attend conferences with job fairs, go on industry trips and more. This is an excellent way to network on multiple levels.
  • Talk with your faculty; employers sometimes seek students to hire by contacting faculty
  • Watch for emails from business@mtu.edu or your academic advisor for employment opportunities
  • Apply and search for positions in STEM fields in Michigan with STEM Forward
  • Meet with Career Services staff or a Career Coach for one on one advisement

Stock Trading Competition- Jan 31 registration deadline

The Finance Club is hosting a stock trading competition on Investopedia open to all College of Business (COB) majors and minors. 

The competition will run from February 1st through April 12th with a starting cash value of $100,000. 

Prize money awarded to the students with the three highest portfolios:

  • 1st: $500
  • 2nd: $300
  • 3rd: $200

If interested in participating, please contact Elisabeth Mattson, Finance Club President, at emmattso@mtu.edu no later than January 31st to receive the game name, password, instructions, and rules. No late entries accepted.
