If anyone needs proof that Winter Carnival brings the Husky family together, they need look no further than the College of Business. Students had a career-forward chance to kick off their Carnival weekend with an alumni panel on Friday. And on Saturday, a pair of management information systems scholarship recipients and the donors who made it possible met up at the MTU Huskies hockey game.

The alumni panel was part of the ongoing Professional Blueprint program, which sponsors workshops and other events throughout the semester to help students with professional development as they look toward establishing their careers. Rick Krass, a 1975 business and economics major, attended the casual get-together with wife Claudette. Business administration grads David Williams, ‘83, and Mike Meeuwsen, ’76, were also there, along with 2024 management grad Meredith Raasio, and Richard Van Goor, ‘71, with wife Ruth.

Being able to hang out with professionals who established successful careers in business is a definite perk

“The time that our alumni spends with our students is so valuable,” said Jodi Filpus-Paakola, coordinator of academic services in the College of Business. “Students are able to hear about career paths firsthand—and it’s always great to hear what our alumni have been up to as well.”

Prospective undergraduate student liaison Marie Cleveland, an alumna herself, agrees that connecting students with graduates is essential.

“It gives students the opportunity to see what’s possible for them in their careers,” she said.”We want all of our students to be exposed to both individual alumni and our strong alumni network.”

Cleveland was ready with the camera at Saturday’s Winter Carnival hockey game, when fellow 1982 alumnus Greg Horvath and his wife, Beth, were able to meet up in the traditional Winter Carnival Alumni Hockey Box with the current management and information systems scholarship recipients Max Schramm, ’25, and Ty Sheets, in his third year of studies.

The College of Business always welcomes opportunities for alumni and students to network. We’re grateful to the alumni who give so generously of their time and talent to make these moments possible and to the students who attend, engage, and learn how to build their own successful careers.
