Conservation Social Sceine Specialist

The Conservation Social Science Specialist in Fish and Wildlife Division at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources position provides scientific support for survey research on people across species, geographies, human populations, and habitats of the state. This position assists the wildlife research staff and populations and regulations unit staff. Climate and Clean Energy Specialist

Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities is seeking a Climate and Clean Energy Specialist to support the Climate and Environment Program in northern Michigan. The Climate and Clean Energy Specialist will be a visible, credible leader on policy issues who will work with key stakeholders to achieve 100% clean energy commitments from local schools, tribal nations, businesses and government entities. This is a full-time position with flexible hours, generous vacation and health benefits, retirement contribution matching, and a competitive salary range. The salary of this position is in the program specialist range of $52,000 – $57,000, commensurate with experience. Graduate Assistantship in Sustainable Communities

  • Graduate Assistantship in Sustainable Communities
    • Northen Arizona University’s Sustainable Communities Program seeks a graduate student for a two-year, fully funded graduate assistantship during the 2024-2026 academic years.
    • The student will be an integral part of a faculty/student team that is developing a new USDA-NIFA-funded project, “Addressing Barriers to HSI Student Retention through Community Engaged Sustainable Food Systems Education.”
    • The Graduate Assistant will work toward an MA degree in Sustainable Communities while helping to coordinate and oversee a team of funded undergraduate interns who will work in Flagstaff public school gardens.
    • Because the project focuses on underserved populations, the Graduate Assistant is required to have a high level of Spanish-language fluency.
    • This position requires working 20 hours per week on the project during the two academic years, and 40 hours a week during the intervening summer.

Research and Policy Associate Position

The Rachel Carson Council is hiring a Research and Policy Associate who is an aspiring, creative, committed and flexible environmental leader at the beginning of their career. The candidate should be willing to help expand and innovate at a small, but growing organization.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine or environmental studies, science, history, or political science, or combined with other majors, minors or concentrations in helpful fields such as African American or Women’s Studies, English, journalism, creative writing, public policy is required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Track proceedings in the House and Senate to help inform RCC’s priorities in the policy agenda; attend legislative hearings, write memos, and send weekly updates to RCC staff regarding relevant issues.
  • Write and publish reports, articles, Op-Eds, policy briefs and papers for the RCC on its issues to include placement in other media outlets, journals, magazines, etc.
  • Speak publicly for the organization through lectures, workshops, rallies, and in the media.
  • Participate in and present to the RCC Campus Network, at RCC conferences, advocacy days, and trainings for RCC Fellows, etc. Work closely under the RCC Director of Policy and Programs to execute events, research, writing, and more.
  • Carry out additional tasks as needed and directed by the President & CEO within RCC’s mission.

Pay is $50,000 annually, or commensurate with experience.

U.P. Land Conservancy Executive Director

The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy is hiring an Executive Director who will direct all land trust operations and programs, supervise staff, and represent UPLC as the face of the organization. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • implementing UPLC’s Strategic Plan,
  • leading and facilitating fund development,
  • and prioritizing program activities to ensure that UPLC functions within its capacity.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with nonprofit administration, fundraising, and building relationships.
  • Knowledge of current natural resources practices and land trust operations. 
  • Experience in writing funded grant proposals.
  • Skills in staff development and interpersonal leadership skills.

Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research

The Mendenhall Postdoctoral Research program works with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program to study coastal systems. One specific opportunity offered is a social science coastal-related fellowship research opportunity. This postdoctoral researcher will help advance fundamental Coastal Change Hazards research, guide and improve coastal hazard assessment capabilities, and advance knowledge of coastal processes to meet the needs of coastal stakeholders around the Nation. The research opportunity will include a focus on assessing social aspects of model predictions in conjunction with the impact of an actual storm event. 

Associate Teaching Professor in GIS

There is availability for an Associate Teaching Professor in GIS at University of California, Santa Cruz. This position will entail multiple key roles intended to support a growing geospatial program in the Department of Environmental Studies. These roles include leading a GIS Master’s program, teaching courses for undergraduate, graduate, and professional development in GIS and Spatial Data Science, maintaining the Center for Integrated Spatial Research (CISR) facilities, and supporting research in geospatial research in the department. This full-time position will start in July of 2024.
