Climate Justice Research Scientist

The Climate Justice Research Scientist will support and expand social science, policy, governance and project management capabilities across various climate change adaptation projects, with an emphasis on projects in collaboration with frontline communities. Located in Seattle, Washington at the University of Washington. Application review will begin on April 21, 2023. A bachelors degree plus two years of experience is required.

Fish Sovereignty Internship

This summer you could gain hands-on experience with tribal traditions and customs of commercial fishing and seafood processing techniques. The selected intern will use this firsthand experience to create recruitment and outreach materials for a pilot program so that other community members may learn these teachings, too.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Member of Keweenaw Bay Indian Community
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Fisheries, Food Systems, Food Sovereignty, or Anishinaabe Cultures & Traditions
  • 18 years old by May 15, 2023
  • Willing to work non-traditional hours, with their hands, work on boats, and handle and process fish 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Summer Work Opportunity at Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities

  • Based in Traverse City, MI Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities is looking for a motivated student to lead research on solar energy development across schools in Michigan.
  • This individual will work with Groundwork Climate and Clean Energy program staff to compile a list of schools in Michigan with solar installations and to track the amount of capacity that it represents across the state.
  • In this report, we also hope to incorporate a trendspotter section to highlight Ann Arbor Public Schools which have committed to achieving 100% renewable energy in their district.

A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum Summer Help

The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum is hiring students for the summer. Work would start no later than the week of Monday, May 1st, 2023. Preferably there would be training shifts that would start at the beginning of April. The position is focused on the museum’s gift shop, retail sales, and sales inventory. The ideal student should have a minimum of 4-hour blocks of time available to work and preferably longer as well as the ability to work between 9 am and 5 pm. Availability on Saturdays would also be ideal. Retail sales and/or customer service experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of geology and minerals is not required. Starting pay $12/hr.

    • This position will work for CVS to support data collection and monitoring of enterprise sustainability initiatives, emissions and energy, plastic, water, waste and other environmental sustainability data. There are two open positions. One will cover the Enterprise Data and the other will support Supply Chain Data.

Paid Internship in Historical Archaeology

  • Paid Internship in Historical Archaeology
    • The Department of Archaeology and Landscapes at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest is offering one funded research position for May 30 through July 21, 2023.  
    • This internship is intended for early-phase graduate students and advanced undergraduates who have previous field training and are looking for more experience conducting fieldwork and supervising field school students in a research-oriented setting. 
    • The application deadline is April 1, 2023.

Summer Field School in Italy

  • San Gemini Preservation Studies-Summer Field School in Italy
    • Offers students the opportunity to study and travel in Italy where they acquire hands-on experience in restoration and conservation.  
    • Two sessions are available and focus on different specialties. An intersession focused on travel is also available.
      • Session I: June 5 – June 30, 2023 (programs include historic buildings, archaeological ceramics and book binding restoration)
      • Intersession:  Italy Preservation Tour – July 2 to July 11, 2023
      • Session 2: July 17 – August 11, 2023 (programs include paper restoration and painting techniques)
