Come Hang with Us!

Come HANG with Student Leadership and Involvement staff this Friday! Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on Walker Lawn lounging in a hammock, balancing on a slackline, or just sitting outside soaking in the summer heat. We will have limited hammocks and slacklines for use so feel free to bring your own as well!

Beekeeping 101 with the Sustainability Demonstration House

The MTU Sustainability Demonstration House is excited to be offering Beekeeping 101 classes this summer!  If you are curious about backyard beekeeping and want to learn more about what it takes to set up a hive, then this is the class for you!  Please see the attached flyer for information on the class content, days, and times. Class space is limited, so sign up now!  (sign-up link can be found in the attached flyer).  Any questions can be sent to sdh@mtu.edu.


SDH Logo Competition

The MTU Sustainability Demonstration House (SDH) is in search of an official project logo!  We would like to invite students across campus to submit logo designs for the SDH project.  We have over $60 in prizes available, including gift cards to two local businesses: Refill U.P. and the Keweenaw Co-op.  The official contest guidelines are attached to this email.  Logos are due on August 14th and can be submitted via this Google form


Volunteers needed for Text Entry study

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study exploring how well people are able to learn eyes-free text entry techniques. The study will consist of 8 sessions taking approximately one hour each over a period of about 2 weeks, and you will be paid $10 per session for your time, for a total of $80. This is an in-person study that will be conducted on Michigan Tech’s campus.  

To participate you must meet the following requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be a fluent speaker of English.
  • Must be a citizen or resident alien of the United States.
  • Must be physically able to tap on a smartphone device with both hands.
  • Must be able to read the smartphone display. You may use whatever glasses, contacts, or reading glasses you would normally use for reading small format text.
  • Must not have a hearing impairment
