The 34th Annual MLK Celebration is here!
Join the Center for Diversity and Inclusion as we reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annually, the CDI and the Michigan Tech Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) host a celebration featuring a keynote speaker, volunteer opportunities, and a creative competition.

Catalyst by LeaderShape – Spring Training Date
Catalyst is a one-day program focused on learning to develop your own authentic path, connect to groups and causes you care about, and commit to a plan to be a catalyst for yourself and the groups you’re part of. A catalyst starts something. It provokes change or action. You can be a catalyst.
Join other student leaders who also want to start something extraordinary for small-group discussion, large-group interaction, and personal reflection.

Cultural Conversation & Innovations in Africa
How much do you know about the African continent? What about the people? Are there exciting things going on in this continent? What constitutes African diversity? All and many of these questions would be answered. Come one, come all!

Innovation Week 2023
January 17-20th, the second week of the spring semester, Husky Innovate will host innovation-themed talks and events including the Bob Mark Business Model Pitch Competition. Started by Michigan Tech’s University Innovation Fellows (UIFs) in 2015, Innovation Week is a celebration of innovation across our Tech Community. Students, faculty, staff, and community are invited.

Finals Week with the Van Pelt and Opie Library
The end of the semester often comes with a lot of stress. The Library wants to help! Along with campus partners, we are planning things to help ease that stress, take much-needed breaks, and tackle your studies.
- See your pets while you study! Share your favorite pictures of your pets by Dec. 8. We’ll compile your submissions into a slide show that will run on the library TVs during finals week.
- Brain Break Stations: give your brain some time off with games, coloring, snacks, and other odds and ends to fidget with. – First and Second Floors
- Pet Therapy: Spend time with trained therapy dog team Finney and Robin for adorable destressing. Dec. 9 & 11, 2-4 pm – First Floor
- Pancake Dinner: Up late studying? Grab some pancakes served up by campus administrators. Dec. 11, 7 pm – MUB Commons
- Snack Attacks: With Student Mental Health and Well-being to keep you fueled and your brain powered up. Dec.12, 14, & 15, evenings – All Floors

The office of Alumni Engagement is hosting a brief New Alumni Welcome Event immediately following rehearsal on Friday, December 16th, for our December graduates. Plan to sign the class flag, receive the alumni welcome gift, and be sure to save some room for a treat or two!

Let’s Taco-Bout It “Live Well”
Keweenaw Youth for Climate Action is partnering with Student Mental Health and Well-being for this month’s “Let’s Taco-Bout It” on Dec 13th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM! Stop by the MUB Commons to enjoy free tacos, pick up our guide to activism burnout, and take some time to rejuvenate through art. The stress of the Climate Crisis can be overwhelming, and Environmental and Social Justice activists are uniquely susceptible to burnout. It’s important to relax and reflect! This will be a space for you to de-stress with helpful resources and tasty tacos.

TUBACHRISTMAS

This annual December event occurs around the world in honor of the first truly great tuba virtuoso, William “Bill” Bell who was born on Christmas Day. Tubists gather yearly in mass numbers around the globe to play songs of the season in performances free to the public. TUBACHRISTMAS concerts are presented with permission from the Harvey Phillips Foundation, Inc.

Let’s Talk
Are you wondering if counseling services are right for you? Perhaps you are feeling extra stressed because of school, or maybe you are concerned about a friend. The CSMHW is hosting Let’s Talk and Color, an informal setting where students can color, distress, and talk to one of our licensed clinicians about the services that our center offers. Students can visit the CDI on December 15th from 1-3 PM.
