ASB through Student Leadership and Involvement is open to any student in good academic and conduct standing at the University. You do not need previous experience in service or on campus to participate. Each trip seeks to have students from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
This year’s Domestic ASB trip will be to St. Joe, Florida. It will be focused on hurricane repair and shoreline cleanup. The group will work alongside several local parks, including TH Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park and the Rish Recreation Area.
In collaboration with the Community Collaborations International, this year’s International ASB trip will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to work with community organizers on issues such as home repair, forest recovery, and youth development.
There is a nominal fee for participating in an Alternative Spring Break trip. The cost includes transportation throughout the trip, lodging on site, meals on-site, and service project coordination. The costs per trip, which are subsidized by the Student Activity Fee, are:
- St. Joe, Florida – $400

College Democrats Club at MTU
Looking to help create a College Democrat Club at Michigan Tech?
I am a student here at NMU and President of the College Democrats here. I understand that there are various political groups up there, but there isn’t a Democratic group up there. And I wish to open the door for campus political life to become more diverse and rich. I want to create a true political representation of college students all over the Upper Peninsula. I am the only Democratic club in the Upper Peninsula currently. If there is at least one person who is willing to take the helm and steer the ship so to speak I think we could do good things for all.
If you are interested in starting a College Democrat Club at MTU, please email Alec LaPlante at email@example.com.
