Make a Difference Day Volunteer Registration

Every fall, Huskies come together to make a real impact—and this year is no different. On Saturday, October 17, join Student Leadership and Involvement for Make a Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Students, faculty, and staff will team up to support local organizations and community members through meaningful volunteer projects.

What to Expect
Projects will vary depending on community needs and may include painting, weeding, planting, raking, organizing, cleaning, and more. It’s a great opportunity to get involved and make a visible difference in just one day.

Ready to Volunteer?
Sign up on our GivePulse community service website! Registration closes on Sunday, October 11 at 11:59 PM.
Please note: Each member of your group or organization must register individually.

Event Check-In
All volunteers must check in between 8:30 and 9:00 AM on October 17 in the Commons on the ground floor of the MUB. Information packets will be handed out at check-in, and groups will head to their assigned service locations. Some sites may require driving, so plan accordingly.

Know Someone Who Needs Help?
If you know a local agency or individual who could use volunteer support, let us know. Submit a request through our site registration form or share it with someone who could benefit from the help of Husky volunteers.

This is your chance to get involved, meet new people, and support your community in a big way. Let’s make this Make a Difference Day the best one yet.

Want to Vote From Your Couch? Have You Considered Voting Absentee?

Absentee ballots are now available for Michigan voters! If you are registered to vote in Michigan, you can request your ballot today by completing the online application. To ensure there is enough time to receive and return an absentee ballot, we recommend submitting your request as soon as possible.

Did you know Michigan voters can also request to be placed on a permanent absentee ballot list? Your local clerk will then automatically mail you an absentee ballot for all local, state, and federal elections.

You should complete your absentee ballot by carefully following the written instructions included with the ballot. In Michigan, absentee ballots must be received by your local clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day, with the exception of military and overseas ballots. You have several options for returning an absentee ballot in Michigan, including mailing your completed and signed absentee ballot to your local clerk’s office using the provided pre-paid envelope.

We know the process can seem intimidating, so let’s break it down into each simple step:

  1. Request your absentee ballot
  2. Receive your ballot in the mail
  3. Research the items on the ballot and fill in your votes
  4. Follow the instructions to secure and seal your ballot
  5. Return your ballot
  6. Check to see if your ballot was received

Not a Michigan Resident?

No worries! If you are a registered voter in another state, you may still be able to request an absentee ballot. Follow the links below to learn about the requirements and process for your state:

Wisconsin – Illinois – Minnesota – Other States

Bring the Story of Your Ancestors to Life! (public talk)

PRESENTATION, Q&A, AND BOOK SIGNING WITH THE AUTHOR
——6:30pm, TUESDAY OCTOBER 6——
Hancock History Hall, 399 Quincy St. in Hancock (note that the 6pm Evening Campus Shuttle will get you there and a return one leaves at 7:36 from Hancock, or we can organize rides back to campus if you need them)

Are you interested in genealogical writing? Have you ever wondered what your ancestors experienced and felt behind all the black and white photos or your collection of family records? Do you think about the decisions they faced, the sacrifices they made, and the dreams that shaped the future of your family? Whether you have years of genealogy research or are just beginning your family history journey, this engaging presentation explores how to transform names, dates, and records into stories that current and future generations will treasure.

Bob Zanotti, author of Beyond the Copper Horizon, will present on:

  • How to uncover the human stories hidden within genealogical research.
  • How historical research can fill in the missing pieces of your family’s story.
  • Writing techniques for bringing ancestors to life while remaining faithful to history.
  • The balance between historical facts and creative storytelling.

Bob has spent decades doing genealogical research, and in the journey of writing an epic family saga, Beyond the Copper Horizon, Bob will share practical insights that anyone can use to begin the rewarding process of writing their own family story. His historical novel is inspired by the lives of his Italian ancestors who journeyed from Italy’s Piedmont to Michigan’s Copper Country during the mining boom of the late nineteenth century. Bob’s passion for genealogy, history, and storytelling stirs his readers and audiences to see their own family history in a new light. www.bob-zanotti.com
