If you are interested in using Enterprise to complete their capstone requirement, please continue to read. If you are interested in alternative capstone options, see SENIOR DESIGN and EUPOPEAN PROJECT SEMESTER.
Joining an Enterprise at Michigan Tech is a fantastic way to gain real-world, team-based experience while working on impactful, hands-on projects. Whether you’re developing health innovations, exploring wireless technology, or tackling global sustainability challenges, Enterprise provides the space to grow, lead, and create.
What is Enterprise?
Enterprise consists of 27 unique student-run teams that function as consulting companies. Each team works on real projects with real clients—often for competition, industry, or community-based needs. Students work in large groups (often 50+), broken into smaller project teams, all under the guidance of faculty mentors.
If you’re a BME student, there are a few additional things to keep in mind:
- The BME Department requires four semesters of Enterprise to fulfill your senior capstone requirement.
- Enterprise modules must be completed during Fall and Spring semesters –Summer semesters will not count toward the capstone.
Important Note: Students will not be allowed to take ENT 4950 or ENT 4960 during the summer. These two courses must be taken in consecutive semesters (e.g., Fall-Spring of the same academic year, or in rare cases, Spring-Fall).
To use Enterprise as a capstone substitute, all four courses (ENT 3950, 3960, 4950, 4960) must be taken within the same Enterprise, ideally on the same project.
How to Register – Step by Step
BME students are welcome to join any Enterprise, but they must confirm there is sufficient Biomedical Engineering work involved. The most common Enterprises for BME students are H-STEM (L36), Consumer Product Manufacturing (L08), Innovative Global Solutions (L16) and Wireless Communications (L03).
Please note, these processes are for all modules EXCEPT ENT 4950.
