Shoutout to Nathan Keen and the Thompson Scholars Association (TSA)

At the Department of Chemical Engineering, we’re always proud to see our students step beyond the classroom to make a lasting impact — and this time, we’re excited to give a special shoutout to Nathan Keen for doing exactly that.

Nathan, along with a group of fellow seniors at Michigan Technological University, recognized an opportunity to strengthen their shared experience as Thompson Scholars and turned that vision into action. Their efforts led to the creation of the Thompson Scholars Association (TSA), a new registered student organization focused on building connection, support, and community among recipients of the Thompson Working Families Scholarship.

What makes this initiative especially meaningful is its foundation: a commitment to service and mutual support. TSA is already creating spaces for students to connect with one another, engage in volunteer work, and foster a sense of belonging that extends well beyond their time on campus.

Nathan’s leadership and initiative reflect the kind of impact we value deeply in chemical engineering — not just solving technical problems, but building stronger communities and lifting others along the way.

We encourage everyone to learn more about Nathan and the inspiring work of the Thompson Scholars in this feature from Stories from Husky Nation

Congratulations to Nathan and the entire TSA team for setting a powerful example of student-driven leadership. We’re excited to see how this organization continues to grow and shape the future of the Thompson Scholar community.
