This week, the Michigan Tech Office of Alumni and Engagement shared goods news from a generous donor that expands scholarship opportunities in the College of Computing.
The Leinweber Foundation has established a new $30,000 scholarship. The Leinweber Software Scholars program will provide financial awards to students from rural Michigan counties who are majoring in computer science at Michigan Tech’s College of Computing.

Michigan Tech rising sophomores—students who will be in their second year of studies at MTU in 2025-26—from a rural Michigan county with a desire to work in the software industry in Michigan can apply for a scholarship through the program now.
Two computer science students will be selected each year, building to a cohort of six.
“I am so appreciative of the support from the Leinweber Foundation,” said Dennis Livesay, Dave House Dean of Computing at Michigan Tech. “It’s really special when priorities align, and we are both passionate about growing the number of software engineering and computer science majors from Michigan.”

About the College of Computing
The Michigan Tech College of Computing, established in 2019, is the first academic unit in Michigan dedicated solely to computing, and one of only a handful such academic units in the United States. The college is composed of two academic departments. The Computer Science department offers four bachelor of science programs in computer science, cybersecurity, data science, and software engineering; four master of science programs in applied computer science, computer science, cybersecurity, and data science; and a doctoral program in computer science. The Applied Computing department offers four bachelor of science programs in cybersecurity, electrical engineering technology, information technology, and mechatronics; and two master of science programs in health informatics and mechatronics. The college also helps to administer an interdisciplinary doctoral program in computational science and engineering.
