With a hard launch scheduled for the start of the Fall 2024 semester, the brand new Michigan Tech Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) is geared up to get rolling with new Center Director Dr. Vinh Nguyen at the helm!
The Center for AI transitions from the ICC Data Science Center in response to the accelerating growth of AI technologies and its rise as a standalone discipline. Our modern world stands to gain much from the accelerated advent of AI, and is already playing major roles in communities, industries, education, and more.
Dr. Vinh Nguyen, who joined Michigan Tech and the ICC in 2022, looks to catalyze AI research and spur societal change with interdisciplinary research, educational advances, and industry partnerships. With 30 starting members with expertise in fields such as transportation, materials design, health informatics, robotics, climate solutions, and much more, the Center for AI is rearing and ready to go.
Dr. Nguyen aims to further Michigan Tech’s position as the forefront of AI research, making the Center for AI the premier research center to provide AI solutions in today’s modern world. His keen understanding for establishing effective industry and community partnerships is the centerpiece of the AI Solutions Hub, a new initiative enabled by the Center for AI.
Through this effort, Dr. Nguyen and the Center will also focus on nurturing the next generation of AI professionals to make a difference in Houghton, the Upper Peninsula, and society in general. By focusing on interdisciplinary applications for AI, new partnerships, research, and budding AI professionals will be equipped with key insight into the vast intersection of Artificial Intelligence and other fields.
Stay tuned for the hard launch of the Center for AI at the start of the academic semester!
