Oluwatosin Oyeniran, a PhD candidate in Integrative Physiology, has been awarded the Michigan Tech Graduate School Doctoral Finishing Fellowship for the Fall 2026 term.
Oluwatosin’s research was conducted in the Integrative Physiology Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. William Cooke. His dissertation, “Acute Effects of Hibiscus sabdariffa on Autonomic Cardiovascular Control in Humans,” investigates the mechanisms by which Hibiscus sabdariffa (hibiscus tea) influences cardiovascular regulation through the autonomic nervous system.
“Using state-of-the-art techniques to assess cardiovascular and autonomic function in humans, my research seeks to improve our understanding of non-pharmacological approaches for blood pressure regulation and cardiovascular disease prevention. Given the global burden of hypertension, my work will contribute to developing evidence-based nutritional interventions that promote cardiovascular health and improve quality of life,” he remarked when asked about the importance of his research.
