Study Abroad in Germany Info Session Is November 19

An informational session about the College of Business Study Abroad trip to Hamburg, Germany, will take place Tuesday, November 19, at 5 pm in AOB 101.

The trip takes place May 5-24, 2025. Participating students will receive academic credit for OSM 3000 Operations and Supply Chain Management (3 credits) and/or MKT 4990 Intro to Consumer Research in Europe (3 credits). Based on the student’s interest, the total credits from this trip can be between 3 and 6 credits.

  • OSM 3000: Learn first-hand about large-scale operations, logistics, manufacturing and lean processes, and supply chains in Germany
  • MKT 4990: Learn first-hand about consumer behavior, digital marketing, advertising, B2B, and technical sales in Europe
  • Blending theory and practice
  • Gain international and intercultural knowledge
  • Faculty-led field trips to experience large-scale industrial operations (automotive, aerospace, processing plant, etc.)
  • Cultural excursions for understanding consumer behavior

Husky Innovate Business Pitch Competition Is November 20

The annual Husky Innovate Idea Pitch Competition will take place Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 5-7 pm in the M&M Building, Room U115. Hosted by the College of Business and the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, the pitch competition is a platform for students to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

The event encourages participants to present innovative, creative business or product ideas that address real-world problems and opportunities. Participants will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and cash prizes will be awarded to the top ideas. Supported by expert guidance and feedback, participating students will gain valuable experience in a professional setting, enhance their skills, gain recognition, and make an impact.

The pitch competition is open to all enrolled Michigan Tech undergraduate and graduate students. Participants can compete individually or on teams of up to three members. Each pitch should be a maximum of five minutes and supported by up to five presentation slides. Pitches must adhere to Title IX University guidelines for student conduct.

A mandatory pitch preparation session takes place November 15 from 5:30–7:30 pm in M&M U113. The short seminar will share information about event set-up and design, present pitch idea reviews, and explain the scoring format.

To participate, please register and send pitch slides by Friday, November 17, at 11:59 pm.

Thinking about a master’s degree? An information session about College of Business graduate programs will take place Thursday, November 14 from 5:30-6:30 pm in AOB 101. Paul Stinson ’84 to Present Meet and Greet on Talk October 22

Paul Stinson ’84 (BS in Business Administration) will present a College of Business Meet and Greet talk on October 22, 2024, from 5:30-6:30 pm in AOB 201. Following, pizza and soft drinks will be served.

During his talk, Stinson will address topics related to “Implementing Agile Methodology in Product Management, and share valuable insights into how Agile practices can be applied to streamline product management processes.

The talk is presented by the College of Business and the Graduate Student Government Professional Development Team.

Rajath Nagaraj ’21 to Present Talk on Project Management in Data Science and AI Innovations in Insurance on Sept. 23

Rajath Nagaraj ’21 MS in Data Science will present a talk by on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 12-1 pm, in MEEM 403. His talk is titled, “Nagaraj will discuss, “Navigating Project Management in Data Science and Exploring Al Innovations in Insurance.”

The talk is presented by the Institute of Computing and Cybersystems’s Center for Artificial Intelligence.

Rajath Nagaraj is a senior data scientist at Liberty Mutual Insurance, working with Al and ML, including LLMs. In this session. Rajath will first dive into the essentials of industry-level project management in data science, exploring best practices for successfully managing complex projects from initiation to execution. The second part will focus on the transformative role of Al in various domains, with a deep dive into how Al is revolutionizing the insurance sector through applications like claims processing, fraud detection, quoting, underwriting, and personalized customer experiences.


Golf Etiquette Outing-RSVP by Sept 18

We are excited to announce an upcoming event that will provide an excellent opportunity for both beginner golfers and those interested in learning about golfetiquette.

Don’t worry if you’re new to golf; this outing is designed to be inclusive and educational for all skill levels. 

Event Details:

Date: Sunday, September 22nd 

Golfers will be placed on tee times from 1-3pm (9 holes of golf typically takes ~ 2 hours)

Location: Portage Lake Golf Course

During this outing, you will have the chance to:

Learn Golf Etiquette: Our experienced “mentors” will provide insights into golfetiquette, rules, and the dos and don’ts on the golf course, making it an ideal event for beginners. 

Network and Socialize: Golf is not just a sport; it’s a valuable tool for building relationships, both personally and professionally. You’ll have the chance to connect with fellow students who share your interest in golf and business.

Practice Your Swing: For those who are new to golf or looking to gain a more complex understanding of, there will be opportunities to practice your swing and get out on the course!
