College of Business graduate Olivia Laven ’24 BS in Engineering Management, was named to the CSC Academic All-America At-Large Team this July. Laven, from Stockholm, Sweden, skied for the Michigan Tech Women’s Nordic Skiing team from 2019 to 2024.

Michigan Tech Nordic Skiers Olivia Laven and Anabel Needham have been named to the CSC Academic All-America At-Large Teams announced Monday. Needham was named to the First Team Academic All-America At-Large team for the first time, while Laven earned Second Team All-America honors.
Needham, a senior from Houghton, Michigan, earned First Team Academic All-America status after qualifying for her fourth NCAA Skiing Championships. She was the NCAA Midwest Regional Champion in the Skate race, also earning First Team All-CCSA. In the classroom, she completed a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering while holding a 4.0 GPA. Needham is now a two-time CSC Academic All-America recipient after being named to the Second Team in 2022-23.
Laven, a senior hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, was the highest finisher for Michigan Tech in the 7.5k freestyle at the NCAA Skiing Championships, taking 24th place in her fourth-straight Championships. She also earned the prestigious Elite 90 Award winner at the NCAA Skiing Championships, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final site for each of the NCAA’s Championships. Laven also took fourth place in the Skate Interval Start at regionals and earned Second Team All-CCSA. In the classroom, Laven held a 4.0 GPA, completing her bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management.
