College of Business Welcomes Alumni and Friends Back to Campus

In addition to honoring two Huskies who have generously donated time, talent and scholarship funding to the College of Business, this week’s Alumni Reunion also includes a fun session Friday afternoon in our conference room detailing our unique Study Abroad program.

Michigan Technological University’s annual Alumni Reunion is always special, but even more so this year as the College of Business prepares to honor two of our own. Robert J. Currey, a 1967 graduate in Business Administration, has been chosen to receive the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award. David Hartley, a 1971 Forestry graduate who served on the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council from 2013-24, is being honored with the 2025 Outstanding Service Award.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award recognizes Currey’s stellar career, which included serving as president, CEO, and ultimately chairman of Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc. from 1990-2024. The award also honors his ongoing generosity to College of Business students, in the form of both professional and financial support.

The Outstanding Service Award recognizes alumni and friends making noteworthy contributions to the success of the Michigan Tech Board of Directors and/or the University. In addition to his service on the Dean’s Advisory Council, Hartley has served on the Michigan Tech Fund Board twice and was president from 1996-98. He was also a member of the President’s Advancement Council from 2014-18. In addition to leadership and guidance, Hartley’s philanthropic impact has also been significant.

Friday Events Also Include Afternoon Presentation

Award winners will be honored at a dinner and ceremony at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts on Friday evening. Earlier on Friday, the College will open its doors from 1-3 p.m. as part of the 2025 Alumni Reunion Campus Showcase for a presentation on the popular Germany Study Abroad Program. The event takes place in Conference Room 101 of the Academic Office Building on the east side of campus.

The faculty-led summer program focuses on operations and supply chains in Germany, along with consumer behavior, digital marketing, advertising, business-to-business (B2B) relationships, and technical sales in Europe. Faculty leaders and associate professors Jun Min and Ulrich Schmelzle will be on hand to share details about the unique program and how it benefits students.

Wherever this weekend finds our returning alumni, welcome back! If you’re still making plans, you can get the full reunion schedule at Michigan Tech’s Alumni and Friends website.
