The Upper Peninsula Road Builders are an association of the fifteen Upper Peninsula County Road Commissions. Since 1967 the Upper Peninsula Road Builders have been providing scholarships and other financial support to Michigan Technological University Engineering and Surveying students. Upper Peninsula Road Builders members work in conjunction with the Upper Peninsula Distributors Association to sponsor events and solicit personal donations which fund this family of scholarships.
The Upper Peninsula Road Builders family of scholarships is comprised of the following three scholarships:
Upper Peninsula Road Builders Endowed Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship provides three to eleven $1000 scholarships per year to undergraduate civil engineering students who are in their 5th year of study. To be eligible for this scholarship students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled at Michigan Tech in the bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering
- Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Senior status with preference given to students who are in their 5th year of study (beyond 8 semesters of college education).
- Financial need is not a primary requirement but will be considered.
Joseph H. Meagher Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship provides a $1000 scholarship to undergraduate civil engineering students who are in their 5th year of study.
- Enrolled at Michigan Tech in the bachelor’s degree program for Civil Engineering
- Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Senior status with p reference given to students who are in their 5th year of study (beyond 8 semesters of college education).
- Financial need is not a primary requirement but will be considered.
Richard C. Mertz Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship provides a $500 scholarship to undergraduate junior or senior student majoring in Surveying who is also a Michigan resident.
- Enrolled at Michigan Tech in the bachelor’s degree program for Survey Engineering
- Be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Junior or Senior status.(a 3rd or 4 th year student is eligible for the award)
- Financial need is not a primary requirement but will be considered.
- State of Michigan resident.
Michigan Tech students working as interns for Upper Peninsula Road Commissions are eligible for a $500 Intern Scholarship. Students must be recommended by their supervisor to be considered for this award.
Scholarship Applications (Click Here) must be received by May 3rd 2019 at 5:00 PM. The scholarship board of directors will make recommendation for award to the Michigan Tech Financial Aid Office by May 17th for these scholarships. Completed applications can be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to:
