ITE Michigan Section Webinar

Increasing roadway capacity by funding capital expansion projects is not always the solution to decrease roadway congestion. FHWA estimates that 60% of congestion is a result of nonrecurring issues such as work zones, bad weather and traffic incidents. TSMO targets the nonrecurring congestion by optimizing the performance of existing infrastructure coupled with utilizing technology to increase roadway capacity, all while keeping associated costs at a minimal. This Virtual Lunch and Learn presentation by Mohammad Al-Akash from AECOM, aims to expound on Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) and provide young professionals with a better understanding of TSMO and its applications. The one-hour session is free to attend and will take place June 8th, 2022, from 11:00 AM EST to noon.

Use link below to register for this free virtual presentation: https://forms.gle/EfkczgifcCDZXLSV8  Registration for the event closes at 5pm on June 4th.

This is a great opportunity for students and young professionals to connect with experienced professionals and learn a little more about TSMO.  While these lunch-and-learns are targeted towards young professionals, anyone is invited to join if interested. If you have any questions or if you would like to present a topic in the future, please contact the YPC Committee Chair Cole Villalobos at Cvillalobos@hrcengr.com.

LEED GA exam training for MTU students, faculty and staff

Michigan Tech alum, Joe Azzarello, is offering a LEED GA exam prep workshop here on campus. It is being offered at a very low cost to all Michigan Tech students, faculty and staff near the end of March.
Joe is one of the founders of the US Green Building Council. He has led LEED training workshops throughout the United States, Mexico, South America, China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam. At Kohler, where he worked for many years as an engineer, he was known as their “green building guru”.

The LEED exam prep training at MTU will take place over two days. Joe will teach on campus in two 5-hour sessions, from 12-5 pm on both Sunday, March 20 and Sunday, March 27. The room is ChemSci 211. Those who cannot attend in person can attend via Zoom. Cost for materials and course is $80. Here is the website and link to sign up.

Depending on interest, Joe may next offer prep for the LEED Accredited Professional Exam.
Please help spread the word!  Here is an article with more info, as well.

LEED Training Special – Houghton – Winter Online Webinars

LEED is simply a sustainability scorecard for green buildings. Buildings can become LEED Certified as can people! The best way to break into the sustainability space is to attain the LEED Green Associate. It also shows employers and clients you have certified knowledge in the field. Since the LEED GA exam doesn’t have a stellar pass rate, the value of the extra letters behind your name will carry even more weight.

My workshops have helped nearly 10K students and professionals learn the material cold (important for interview prep) AND clear the exam with a very high passing rate.
