Are you interested in learning more about Enterprise at Michigan Tech? Maybe you are thinking about joining Enterprise, but are not sure which team is right for you? Learn more by talking with program staff and students from various Enterprise teams, all in one place! Enterprise Day will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20 in The Rozsa Center Lobby. Teams will be spread out across the Rozsa Lobby and outside, weather permitting.

Things to do

•        Complete the attached one-page application form (Page 2)

•        Prepare a one-page double spaced on My Future in Transportation

•        A short biography (150 words or less) and photo

•        One-page resume

•        Submit the form, paper, a short bio with a photo, and a resume to Dr. Kuilin Zhang (klzhang@mtu.edu) by November 5, 2021 – he will review the application, complete a Professor/Advisor form, and send your package to ITE Michigan by November 12, 2021.

Note: Applicant must be a student member in ITE International and the Michigan Section.

Pre-registration requiredHusky Innovate and the Van Pelt and Opie Library invite students and community members to participate in the Protect Your Innovation workshop. Michigan Tech IP expert, Licensed Patent Agent, Associate Vice President for Research Administration Jim Baker will lead us through compelling IP scenarios. Librarian and Patent and Trademark Research Center (PTRC) Representative Annelise Doll will explain patents, trademarks and resources available through Michigan Tech’s PTRC which is part of the Patent and Trademark Office’s nationwide program of PTRCs. Husky Innovate Talk with Innovator Jacob Soter | 10/8, 12:00 – 1:00 pm, Zoom

Michigan Tech graduate Jake Soter EE/CPE ’19, MBA ’20 observed that flag warning systems at beaches weren’t updated right away and knew that swimmers weren’t getting important information on days with strong rip-currents and high waves. He identified a value proposition and together with his advisor, Dr. Andrew Barnard, created a technological solution to address this problem. From there, he launched a new business. Join us to hear about Jake’s innovation pathway, how he validated his value proposition, what he’s learned along the way and what’s next for his business. Summer 2022 – Summer Research Opportunities

Great Lakes Plastic Debris and Microplastics Research (2-3 positions)These positions will support new US EPA, Wisconsin Coastal Management, and NOAA funded projects related to plastic trash removal and research in the Great Lakes. One position will be the boat Captain for the Great Lakes first regional trash boat (i.e., pontoon-type boat that picks-up trash). This position requires boating experience but pay will be significantly increased. The other positions will be deck hands and research assistants that will help with plastic trash removal, characterization, and microplastics research.

Door or Manitowoc County Field Research Assistant (4-5 positions)

These positions support US EPA Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) projects associated with Great Lakes beaches and Door or Manitowoc Counties, WI. The beaches have undergone, reengineering to mitigate microbial and chemical pollution and protect public health. You will conduct field research, operate a local lab facility, and be involved with many aspects of the research projects. Additional compensation may be available for this position.

Salary and Benefits:

For all positions a salary of $4,500-5,000 for the summer (boat Captain will be paid higher rate), paid travel, and paid housing is provided to all interns. You will have the opportunity to learn field and lab techniques, operate a state-certified laboratory, network with professionals in the field, co-author posters and publications, and live in a great part of Wisconsin for the summer.

Scholarships: WTS Michigan

WTS is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the transportation industry.  The WTS Foundation (WTSF) was formed in 2009 to provide scholarships to support the next generation of transportation professionals in our mission.

The local WTS Michigan Chapter is supporting four scholarships for deserving women in Michigan!  Two undergraduate scholarships at $1,500 each and two graduate scholarships at $2,500 each.  The women that win at the local level are automatically entered at the International level for their chance at scholarships with even higher values!  Details of each scholarship are on the first page of the application.
