Spring 2020: FW5110 Climate Change and Management

We have some outreach items for the FW5110 Special Topics class, Climate Change and Management in Great lakes Forested Ecosystems, to share with you.  I’ve attached a flyer about the course, which also includes a link to a webpage with more information (https://forestadaptation.org/fw5510).
This class provides an overview of climate science, effects on forested ecosystems, and adaptation options for natural resource management in the Great Lakes region.  The Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science climate adaptation framework will be used to develop climate change adaptation plans for real-world forested ecosystems, and you will learn how to communicate these climate change projects and plans with others.

Scholarship: Michigan Tech Student Foundation (MTSF)

MTSF is awarding The Leadership Award scholarship for the Fall 2019 Semester!

  • The Leadership Award is a $1000 scholarship presented to four full time students (12+ credit hours) who have demonstrated leadership abilities on campus.  This scholarship is open to Undergraduate Students not graduating in Dec. of 2019 and applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for this award.

Scholarship: Michigan Stormwater-Floodplain Association

Each year the Michigan Stormwater-Floodplain Association (MSFA) awards at least one scholarship to a full time junior, senior or graduate student studying biosystems, civil or environmental engineering; or a related natural resources planning program with a specialization related to the mission and goals of the MSFA at a Michigan University.

Faculty-Led Study Abroad Info Sessions

I want to be sure that the group has information on our Faculty-Led Study Abroad information sessions, which are coming up soon:
Wednesday, Oct 2, 5-6pm in Fisher 101
Monday, Oct. 28, 5-6pm, Library East Reading Room
I have attached an e-announcement for the event, and I’d love to ask if you would share that with your students, and with other faculty who may have students who are interested.
We will have programs for Spring Break, Track A, and Track B, in six locations:
England, Scotland, and Ireland
Greece
Peru
The Bahamas
Costa Rica
Germany
Almost all of the courses offered are HASS and CORE courses; some programs also have the option for more advanced study. For example, in Greece I will be teaching a class called, “International Arts Studio,” where students are able to develop their own creative research project working one-on-one with a faculty mentor.
