The MTU Center for Science & Environmental Outreach provides after school STEM classes for students at Baraga Elementary and CJ Sullivan Elementary School (L’Anse). Classes are once per week for one hour between 4-6 pm. They may be virtual or in-person. The Center has lots of lessons already to go that an instructor just has to organize supplies for. Classes begin week of Sept. 13
The Center also conducts 1.5-2 hour science field trips during the school day for K-8 classes, which usually take place at their schools. There are already lessons prepared and supply kits ready to go. You can choose times to fit your schedule.

The high-performance computing laboratory for Sustainable Intelligent Transportation Systems (SITS-Lab) in the Department Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering is looking for hourly research assistants to help a research project on using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to monitor traffic flow dynamics. The hourly research assistants will work with a Ph.D. student on using a semi-automatic traffic annotation tool, iATTS (Interactive Annotation Tool for Transportation Surveillance), developed at SITS-Lab to identify and annotate individual vehicle trajectories in UAV videos. The work will be conducted in our research laboratory, Dow 842. The hourly pay rate will be $12/hour and it is expected that you would be able to work 10-20 hours per week.
To qualify for this position, you should be familiar with the following computer operations:
1. Google Earth (Google Maps) software
2. Windows Paint
3. Familiar with video play software such as windows media player
4. Quick learning ability to operate a Windows GUI – iATTS
The successful candidates must be able to show excellent communication skills, demonstrated attention to detail, and a good work ethic. You need to pass a training test in order to do this work.

Ann Arbor SPARK and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) are launching Michigan STEM Forward, a statewide program that matches students attending Michigan colleges and universities with internship opportunities at the state’s leading innovative companies. Companies do not have to be in a specific industry, but all internships must be STEM-focused. Michigan STEM Forward provides students meaningful career experience and promotes job retention in the state, while providing financial support to companies who hire these interns.
Based on Ann Arbor SPARK’s successful internship match program, the state tapped the regional economic development organization to steer the new statewide initiative, working with regional SmartZone service organizations to connect companies with interested students.
“Ann Arbor SPARK is thrilled to leverage our decade of experience running our own Ann Arbor-based internship program and take the opportunity to administer the Michigan STEM Forward program on behalf of the state.
