Talk Title

Quantum Computing Explained

Talk Abstract

Quantum Computing (QC) is a new paradigm of performing computations using quantum mechanical systems. In this talk, I will first present a little bit of history on computability and the motivations behind QC. Then, I will provide an overview of the basics of QC and how quantum algorithms are designed and analyzed. I will present a few simple quantum algorithms in order to demonstrate how some classically hard problems can be solved with quantum machines efficiently. Finally, I will briefly discuss some of the applications of QC in other fields of Computer Science and in other areas of science.
