The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) at ORNL provides the nation’s most powerful computing resources to researchers across the world. With the fastest computer in the nation, High-Performance Computing (HPC) User Support Specialists at ORNL provide scientists with training, documentation, and day-to-day assistance to enable their successful use of these resources. Major responsibilities will include debugging large scientific and engineering applications, resolve system and operational changes, proactively ensure users have up-to-date information about the system, develop user training materials, implement special projects and respond to general administrative questions.

Qualifications: Must have a master’s degree, preferably in computer science, with 2+ years of experience in at least one area of user support including operations, user training, hardware, and/or software administration. Should also have practical experience with multiple programming languages and technologies such as Fortran, C, C++, Perl, Python, and Shell scripting in a Linux or Unix environment. The applicant should also have strong problem solving skills, strong communication skills, a commitment to excellent service, and a willingness to learn.

Civil/Architectural Engineering Scholarship

AISC / GLFEA $5000 Scholarship Available to MS Student in Structures!

The Great Lakes Fabricators & Erectors Association (GLFEA) in conjunction with AISC are sponsoring a $5000 scholarship to a deserving student attending any Michigan School.

Deadline: May 1, 2015

Eligibility:

  • MS level graduate students in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering programs
  • Attending universities in MI full-time
  • U.S. citizen

Last year this scholarship did not get awarded because of zero applicants.

CMAA Scholarship/Internship: Due March 13

The National Capital Chapter presents up to 10 scholarships each year ranging from $1,000-$2,500, however many times there are very few applicants. This is a good opportunity as a CMAA scholarship/internship can make your resume stand out, and funds can be used to cover books, lab fees, etc.  For more information about CMAA scholarship and internship opportunities, see the links below:

Deadline for submissions is March 13, 2015.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have completed a minimum of one full academic year of studies, and must have a minimum of one full academic year remaining prior to completing the degree being pursued.
  • Must be enrolled in a Construction Management degree program, or other CM-related degree program, and show a strong interest in a career in CM, as demonstrated by a response to the essay question in the application package.

Scholarship Application

  • Additional Criteria: Must attend college or retain permanent residence in Maryland, Washington, D.C., or Virginia.

Internship Application

  • Additional Criteria: Internship candidates must be either United States citizens or be authorized to work in the United States.

WRI Scholarships

Spring-Break Shuttle Service

Transportation Services shuttle service will operate 7:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. MondayFriday, March 9-13. The shuttle services the Memorial Union Building to the SDC and stops at both the Lower and Upper Daniell Heights’ bus stop. The shuttle will also stop hourly at the Lakeshore Center.

The City of Houghton will not be operating on campus, which includes the MTU afternoon shuttle during the week of March 9-13. For questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Angie Kolehmainen at 487-3288.
