Yu Cai announced as new ICC Associate Director

The ICC is pleased to announce the appointment of a new ICC Associate Director: Dr. Yu Cai!

Dr. Cai is an exemplary case when it comes to contributions to Michigan Tech and the community at large, spearheading several vital initiatives such as the CyberCorps Program at MTU, the GenCyber K-12 Summer camps, and many impactful funded grants exploring cybersecurity and computing education.

Yu Cai’s vision for growing large team research in the ICC is very compelling,” said ICC Director Tim Havens. “I’m thrilled to be working with Yu Cai on growing the ICC and fostering impactful research in computing and cybersystems.

Dr. Cai, an Associate Dean in the College of Computing, prioritizes the importance of arming the next generation of cybersecurity experts with the tools and knowledge they need, as well as making the field more accessible to keep up with the country’s growing need for cybersecurity professionals. He is one of the 2024 recipients of the Sustained Teaching Excellence Award, which is received by standout professors who are nominated by students for the yearly MTU Distinguished Teaching Award four times or more.

Dr. Dukka KC, the previous ICC Associate Director, served for a two year period in this position, playing a major role in institute research activity since his start in the position in February of 2022. The ICC wishes him the best of luck in his move to the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he will serve as the Department Chair of Computer Science.
