Job Summary:

As a Metallurgical Engineer you will play a key role in providing technical support to manufacturing, customer service and quality. In addition, you will be responsible for analyzing process capability, control and improve metallurgical processes, providing customer technical support and supporting product testing and inspection processes.

Top Requirements:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Materials Sciences or Metallurgical Engineering

• 3-5 years Experience as a Metallurgist (company makes super alloys – titanium)

• They are specifically looking for someone that has 3-5 years

experience out of college and would like this to be their second job.

• Must currently have right to work in US (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)

• Analyze microstructures, fatigue, creep on parts

EJ is looking for a Metallurgical Engineer for our East Jordan Michigan foundry. Formerly East Jordan Iron Works, EJ is a family owned grey and ductile iron foundry that produces street castings and has been in operation for over 131 years.

POSITION SUMMARY
Oversees the operations of the Metal and Sand labs, ensuring that all the necessary testing is being conducted to guarantee that the iron and sand produced meets associated standards. Provides technical support in the analysis of quality issues, process improvements, and various special projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Supervises the Metal and Sand lab technicians involved in process control activities.
• Oversees that lab tests are conducted properly and that appropriate test documentation is maintained.
• Ensures that all Metal and Sand parameters are within specified ranges or take the necessary actions to correct and maintain product quality.
• Ensures that all test procedures and equipment complies with all applicable standards.
• Ensures that the finished product conforms to customer specifications.
• Conducts analysis of casting defects and make recommendations for process improvements.
• Investigates quality problems related to metallurgical or sand issues and makes recommendations on corrective actions.
• Conducts various research projects in a variety of areas including technical improvements, process improvements, variation reduction, etc.
• Provides technical expertise to production employees and offers specific process improvement recommendations to fulfill quality expectations.

A Metallurgical and Materials Laboratory Engineering position at a global state of the art laboratory at Ford Motor Company providing investigation, support and analysis of automotive components, technology and processes.

Position Duties:
• Provide failure analysis and material evaluation of automotive components in support of product launches, durability concerns, and engineering.
• Prepare and evaluate ferrous and non-ferrous metallographic samples using ASTM and local procedures.
• Operate and maintain a variety of metallographic and physical testing equipment.
For example, metallographic sample preparation equipment, metallographs, microindentation hardness testers, scanning electron microscopes, Rockwell/ Brinell hardness testers, NDE equipment and tensile test machines.
• Analyze and characterize inorganic materials using x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) techniques.
• Prepare electronic reports with results, photo documentation, and conclusions on a timely basis.
• Regularly communicate and review testing results with engineers and suppliers.

Minimum Requirements:
• BS degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science
• Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in materials or material testing with a strong emphasis in metallography, fractography and failure analysis.
• Demonstrated knowledge of common material/sub-system interactions.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong Leadership Behaviors.

Waupaca Foundry 3 Positions

We are looking for three aspiring engineers at this point. One position is a full-time metallurgist and the other two are intern/co-op positions, one for our metallurgical department and the other for our pattern engineering department. We would be looking for a material science major for the two metallurgical positions, however, we would be open to any mechanical or technology engineering students (possibly ones taking the casting course) for the tooling engineer position.
