Summer Internship in Detroit

Are you interested in working with refugee resettlement agencies in the Detroit metro area this summer? Are you interested in survey and/or interview methods?

During the summer of 2024, join an interdisciplinary team of researchers working to understand refugee integration factors and the outcomes of these factors on migration and voting behavior. MTU is beginning a project working with the non-profit Global Detroit, the Standford Immigration Lab, and the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, and we need interns to help with recruitment and data collection. Earn internship credit, build networks, and learn new skills. Compensation up to $20/hour.

Research and Policy Associate Position

The Rachel Carson Council is hiring a Research and Policy Associate who is an aspiring, creative, committed and flexible environmental leader at the beginning of their career. The candidate should be willing to help expand and innovate at a small, but growing organization.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in marine or environmental studies, science, history, or political science, or combined with other majors, minors or concentrations in helpful fields such as African American or Women’s Studies, English, journalism, creative writing, public policy is required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Track proceedings in the House and Senate to help inform RCC’s priorities in the policy agenda; attend legislative hearings, write memos, and send weekly updates to RCC staff regarding relevant issues.
  • Write and publish reports, articles, Op-Eds, policy briefs and papers for the RCC on its issues to include placement in other media outlets, journals, magazines, etc.
  • Speak publicly for the organization through lectures, workshops, rallies, and in the media.
  • Participate in and present to the RCC Campus Network, at RCC conferences, advocacy days, and trainings for RCC Fellows, etc. Work closely under the RCC Director of Policy and Programs to execute events, research, writing, and more.
  • Carry out additional tasks as needed and directed by the President & CEO within RCC’s mission.

Pay is $50,000 annually, or commensurate with experience.

U.P. Land Conservancy Executive Director

The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy is hiring an Executive Director who will direct all land trust operations and programs, supervise staff, and represent UPLC as the face of the organization. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • implementing UPLC’s Strategic Plan,
  • leading and facilitating fund development,
  • and prioritizing program activities to ensure that UPLC functions within its capacity.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with nonprofit administration, fundraising, and building relationships.
  • Knowledge of current natural resources practices and land trust operations. 
  • Experience in writing funded grant proposals.
  • Skills in staff development and interpersonal leadership skills.
  • Experience with effective public presentation and writing skills.
  • BA or BS in a related field
