Job Posting: Road Commissions (Houghton & Emmet County)

The Emmet County Road Commission (Harbor Springs Michigan) has an opening for a summer intern.  The road commission has several larger projects going this year including construction of a timber bridge, a large aluminum box culvert, a cold-in-place pavement recycling project, as well as a variety of other work including overseeing gravel crush production measurements, traffic counts, and assisting with survey work.  The road commission pays $15 per hour with a guaranteed 40 hours per week and some overtime on projects.  This is a chance to work with one of Michigan Tech’s civil engineering alumni to learn about transportation engineering and construction.

The Houghton County Road Commission (Hancock Michigan) is looking for a summer intern to do construction oversight.  The student should be a civil engineering student with interest in transportation.  Basic surveying skills are a bonus.   The HCRC typically hires younger college students to train them so they can work several summers.  Additionally MTU students working at an Upper Peninsula road commission can be eligible for a $500 UP Roadbuilder scholarship for every year of successful completion of the position (supervisor recommends the scholarship).

Applicants will be reviewed on a first come first served basis until the position is filled.  Interested applicants should apply by sending an e-mail with a resume and short cover letter to:
