My name is Mira, and I am with the ACEC Research Institute. We are currently accepting applications for our engineering scholarship program for the 2025-26 academic year, and I wanted to personally reach out to share this opportunity with you and your students.

The ACEC Research Institute is the leading source of knowledge and thought leadership for creating a more sustainable, safe, secure, and technically advanced built environment. The Institute’s mission is to deliver information and business strategies that guide and elevate the engineering industry through research, forecasts, trend analysis and academic scholarships.

Through the ACEC Research Institute scholarship portal, qualified students have access to more than 100 scholarships totaling nearly $1 million in grants, including:

  • A $5,000 NCEES Scholarship specifically for students from Michigan
  • A variety of diversity and inclusion scholarships, including those for HBCUs
  • Both merit-based and need-based opportunities

Scholarship: WTS-MN 2025 Scholarship Applications are OPEN

2025 Scholarship Applications

The 2025 Scholarship application period is open. 

The WTS Minnesota women scholarships are competitive and are based on the applicant’s specific transportation goals, academic record, and transportation-related activities or job skills. Applicants of varying background and experiences are encouraged to apply. Financial need is not a primary consideration. Applications must be submitted as 1 PDF and are due via this google form by Friday, January 3, 2025  at 5 pm.

WTS Minnesota Scholarships

$2,000 Dan Meyers High School Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a high school senior.   
  • Applicant must be considering a college degree in a transportation-related field such as civil engineering, math, urban planning, geography, economics, or public policy.

$2,000 Katherine Turnbull Undergraduate Leadership Scholarship

  • Applicants must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, or logistics.
  • Applicant must have plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.
  • Applicants for the Katherine Turnbull Undergraduate Leadership Scholarship must specifically address the issue of leadership on their personal statement.

$2,000 Donna Allen Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Applicants must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, or logistics.
  • Applicant must have plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.

$2,000 WTS Minnesota Graduate Scholarship

  • Applicants must have GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, or logistics.

$2,000 WTS Technical Scholarship

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Currently enrolled in an technical school program in a transportation-related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance, or logistics.
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.

$2,000 WTS/MSES Workforce Development High School Scholarship

  • Applicant must be a high school senior.

Scholarship: AGC Educational Endowment Fund Scholarship ProgramScholarship:

Applications for the 2025-26 school year are now open. (DEADLINE: January 31, 2025)

The AGC of Michigan Educational Endowment Scholarship program has been providing undergraduate scholarships for students pursuing construction management or civil engineering degrees at accredited Michigan universities since 1984.

•        Need money for school?
•        Sophomore or Junior in college?
•        Attend a Michigan university?
•        Major in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field?

You can earn $2,000 or more toward tuition and books, for a small investment of your time.

Co-op: Gordie Howe International Bridge (Detroit, MI)

Electrical Field Engineer – Spring 2025 Co-op

Details:
The Gordie Howe Project is an international bridge between Detroit, MI and Windsor, ON. The bridge has a total length of 1.5 miles and has the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America with the US tower being the second tallest structure in the State of Michigan. This $6 billion+ project is looking for an Electrical Field Engineer to help oversee the installation of the bridge’s electrical systems.

Responsibilities:
• Document project-wide coordination meetings, subcontractor schedules, and safety hazards.
• Coordinate scopes of work between multiple subcontractors as they pertain to the project’s permanent and temporary electrical systems.
• Supervise electrical equipment handling and installation.
• Utilize drawings to accurately coordinate the installation of electrical system materials.
• Insure electrical components meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Communicate with project team members on a daily basis.
• Review, analyze, and compare legal contracts, records, schedules, and cost breakdowns.

Skills:
• Proficient in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to represent the company and coworkers in a professional manner at work
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Education/Experience:
• 2nd year+ Construction Management (preferred), Electrical Engineering (preferred), Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering

KGS Geohydrology Internship Program (multiple positions available)

Position Overview

The Geohydrology Section of the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) at the University of Kansas (KU) invites applications for multiple KGS Geohydrology Summer Research Assistantship positions for the summer of 2025. The positions are available for upper-level undergraduates, recent graduates, or graduate students with an interest in interdisciplinary water science, including biogeochemistry, ecohydrology, and hydrogeology. Established in 1997, positions in the KGS summer internship program have been held by students from a variety of institutions across the US and abroad. Many past participants have co-authored articles or conference presentations based on the summer work, and students would be encouraged to continue work on projects as part of an undergraduate or graduate thesis following the conclusion of the internship if interested.

About the KGS | Kansas Geological Survey (ku.edu)

In 2025, we anticipate hiring between 2-4 interns. Interns can apply for one of two tracks:

  • Ecohydrology Track (led by Sam Zipper): These interns will conduct research on the characterization and analysis of groundwater and surface water resources, and interactions between water resources, ecosystems, and society. Projects on this track will primarily be data science and modeling-focused.
  • Biogeochemistry Track (led by Erin Seybold): These interns will conduct research focused on understanding the drivers of groundwater and surface water quality in various settings. This may include collecting and analyzing water quality samples, working with high-frequency water quality sensor networks, and synthesizing and analyzing long-term water quality data. Projects on this track may include both lab work and data science approaches.

Interns in both tracks will work closely with collaborating KGS scientists, staff, and students to complete summer research projects that meet project needs and align with intern career goals and interests. While the interns will specialize in one of these two tracks, they will have opportunities to work together and with other students to gain interdisciplinary experience and exposure to a variety of methods.
