CITY Internship Program

COMTO’s Careers in Transportation for Youth (CITY) Internship Program provides minority college juniors and seniors with a unique opportunity to gain professional and practical experience in the transportation industry. Through the CITY Program, COMTO seeks to prepare the best and brightest to become leaders, decision makers and change agents in the transportation industry. Interns will work, learn and gain professional development and team-leading experience at transportation agencies or businesses, while exploring careers within the industry.

Application Open: October 19, 2018
Application Deadline: February 25, 2019

Interviews: March 2019
Applicant Notification: No later than March 2019
Internship Dates: June 3 – August 9, 2019
National Conference in Tampa, FL: July 12-16, 2019

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

To apply to COMTO’s CITY Internship program, the applicant must:

  • Be a US citizen or eligible to work in the US
  • Belong to an underrepresented or minority group
  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Be enrolling as a college junior, senior, or first year graduate student in the coming Fall academic term at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Have, and show proof of, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Be able to successfully pass a background and/or drug check
  • Reside or attend school in the internship area;
  • Able to accommodate a possible summer relocation opportunity
  • Be available and able to complete the 10-week internship program
  • Be available to travel to, and participate in, COMTO’s National Meeting & Training Conference in a major US city in July

General Meeting: REAC (Railroad Engineering and Activities Club) Speaker Series

Everybody is invited to this month’s edition of the Railroad Engineering and Activities Club Speaker Series, featuring guest speaker Phil Pasterak!
Phil works for WSP Engineering, and will be discussing some of the high(er) speed rail projects that he’s been a part of recently. He’s also going to be sharing a number of internship and full-time opportunities at the meeting!

Study Abroad: Cumbria once again!

There will be a “final” Cumbria promotion this Thursday, Jan 31, Fisher 125, 6 – 7.
The program is a “go” this year – enough bodies already accepted and have paid the deposit – but more will be welcome!
Also I will be starting soon – should have earlier – the promotions for London in January 2020 – short term between New Years and start of term, -9 days 1 course three credits, and also Greece, Track A 2020, 4 weeks, 9 credits!

Bolivia: Looking for team members to help implement and design a road culvert
Guatemala: Looking for a Team Leader to coordinate and manage the project and team members to help implement and design a gravity-fed water distribution system

UG Student Fellowship: TURF at Portland State University

We’re offering a student opportunity to spend a summer doing research on the Portland State University campus (home to the national university transportation center: NITC) with our unique fellowship program now in its 2nd year: Transportation Undergraduate Research Fellowship (TURF).

This opportunity is open to current undergraduate students from any university who are pursuing transportation engineering or planning research. Students will be paired with a PSU faculty mentor to work on transportation research for 10 weeks (40 hrs/ week) with a $7,500 stipend. Applications are due February 15th (decisions made by March 29th).
